Been there. Can't say I agree. My mother in laws current husband took us there a few years back. He had grown up with it so I don't fault him (or you) but I think this is a case of nostalgia being better than reality.
My memories of it were pre fried chicken chains. There was another place on the east side of town called Stefanich’s, but I really don’t remember it as well. Sit down restaurants or the neighborhood delicatessen we’re it, for fried chicken. We didn’t get much of either growing up

    Somewhere in Texas!
Back in High School one night ithe Grape soda & Everclear raised its angry head. My buddy John always had under $100.0 VW beetles It was a very cold winter Sunday night. Road conditions forced us from play Hogs Of The Road.

John was John Bulushi like before John Bulushi ever hit Saturday Night Live. He loved excess. I can't remember what crap fast food we washed down, but it wasn't a great choice. Soon John was blotto & gave up the wheel. Wasn't long afterwards the projectile vomiting hit. Nuts was driving at the time and took a burst to the back of his head. Needless to say John figured he better call it a night, but not befor getting cleaned up & the interior of the mighty bug.

We end up at at car wash were John desided to hose off. It's really hard to spray someone in the face whose covered in grape puke with chunks. After he felt clean a vagina in a douche commercial, he went about hosing out the interior. Remember them old Beetles were pretty water tight to the point they floated.

Just before finishing Torpedo another friend spotted us & joined the festivities. Lucky for me he offered he a ride home leaving Nuts to drive John home. Nuts lived near by & needed to roll in the fresh snow a bit more to get the stank off.

Next morning at school everyone gathered in amazement of the grape puke stalactites that hung inside John's bug. If I had them daze to redo I wouldn't change a thing.
This sounds much like my misspent youth! LOL. Except I drank pretty much anything with alcohol, Purple Passion, wine coolers, beer, scotch, whiskey (bourbon), Bacardi 151 STRAIGHT from the bottle, To this day I cannot drink or even smell Wild Turkey after a bad night, I polished off a half-gallon and got about halfway through another, talk about sick and miserable!!! LOL. At that time of my life, I partied every night, worked every day, I had 10 cases of beer a week and 3-5 half gallons of hard liquor a week, kind of odd I did not become an alcoholic. Even odder I still have my original liver!!

i haven’t had Popeyes in a cool minute, and I’ve never had bush’s chicken. So Popeyes is my choice. However, I have found myself going to Jolibees from time to time.

The Popeyes I've been to several times is great -- food wise.
The place is filthy, city writes 'em up but they never clean up.

Roof, walls, floor are yucky - best to use the drive through only.
On Nacogdoches a mile or so south of the northside 1604 loop.

HAH! The nastiest places have the best food. I can show you around some Mexican joints in San Marcos if you doubt me.

I remember the time in Houston at our favorite Mexican restaurant. The door to the kitchen flew open and stuck open. Wife would never let me go back there after seeing the work and workers in the kitchen.
I’ve remodeled several restaurants. Steak, Mexican, Chinese,Italian……swore I would never eat at them again. Quite a few were very “ high end “ establishments.
