Let me give an example: Back in the 1970's many of us had special "beach trucks" with 4WD, larger fuel tanks, big soft tires, etc. and would venture far down the PINS at all times of year. All firearms were prohibited by regulation. The beach far from Port Mansfield or The ranger station HQ was absolute wilderness. The ONLY "police" presence was the every 12 hours ranger Jeep patrols, from the HQ to the Port Mansfield Channel and back. We told both the rangers and the County Sheriffs that we weren't going unarmed. We got "winks" from them all. The rangers viewed us as sort of informal "deputies" as we all carried radios, extra wheels/tires, jacks air compressors, fuel in Jerry cans, chains, etc. Several of us were MD's, RN's, & EMT's. We did more minor rescues than the official services. The ethic of the era was that we would always help another 4WD in trouble free of charge. Many of those were elderly Midwestern tourists in Jeeps they had towed behind motor homes, but underestimated distances or softness of sands. Others towed stuck 2WD's past the "4WD ONLY" signs for a fee, and helped pay for their beach trucks in that manner. I never charged anyone for help.

Oh look, I went on a little "rant" !

I have pulled out hundreds of vehicles down there and never charged anybody anything. I always explained I wouldn’t be responsible for any damages before hooking up to them. Over the years, there were a couple dozen that I towed all the way back to the 2WD area. It always amazed me how many idiots would use the packed down wet sand during during low tide to take their rental minivan 10 miles past the 4WD sign, and when the tide came back in have nothing but deep sand to drive on.

For those who have done this, did you include a copy of your LTC with your letter?

And, is there a list of which office (Public Affairs, Executive, Legal) to contact and the method (email or US mail)?

Yes you should, along with a copy of your State ID or DL.

Each district has its own contact numbers and email.

On a previous post, i posted a map of the Districts.

Simply do a web search for the district you need.

Contact public affairs first, Legal second, and executive 3rd.

All the districts except one I did via email and sent copies of my LTC's and DL. A few of the Districts required a call to get an email and the ball rolling.

Keep in mind that if a District covers an area that a Texas LTC does NOT have reciprocity with, you will have to have a LTC for that area. Example: Rock Island District and St Louis District as well as Chicago district will require a Illinois LTC as Ilinois does NOT recognize a Texas LTC. BTW I am the only one in Texas Certified to teach a Illinois LTC class. There are two others but they arent teaching.

PM me for a district you want and I will give you the Email addy for that district.

I contacted the Forth Worth office, and they did not seem to want to issue the letter good for the whole district. Instead, they said I had to contact someone at each individual park within the district, and request a letter for that specific park. Is this something new?

I received a letter from the Ft Worth District Commander giving me permission on all the recreation areas in the FTW District. This was in January 2022 and good for 5 years.

I'm curious as well since a little bit of searching kept sending me down the typical rabbit-holes.

    Not “unintentional”, either.

Our enemies seek any means to disarm us, even patently unconstitutional ones.

Remember that Ray Nagin was sentenced to Seagoville TX Federal Prison; but, was never even charged or tried for his most serious crimes against Citizens and our Constitution, b/c they were “gun control“. The “powers that be” were all for any gun control, no matter how illegal, unconstitutional, or outrageusly dangerous to his own Citizens.

Luckily, our good Federal Judge “Barbier” called the Police SUPERVISORS into his Federal court in N.O. and told them: Gentlemen, I have twice ordered that you not do this; both orders are in-force, but you continue to ignore & order others to violate them. The next time I see ONE incident, YOU are going to jail ! Not your Officers, YOU ! That seems to have stopped them locally.

But the three “leaders”, including Nagin, were never charged, despite massive evidence of their numerous violations of both State & Federal Laws.

Karma now has one then-Sheriff, Jack Strain, serving a life, no parole term for unrelated heinous crimes. These are NOT nice folks who ignorantly wish to disarm us to control crime. They are/were terrible Bad Guys, who had fooled people. The third area Sheriff/Criminal looks to have got off scott free.

That sent a signal to other wanna-be gun controllers that it was open season us, laws or not. Over 17 years ago.
