Anyway, gain of function and increased lethality research are all the rage!
You are correct. Maybe it's time it went on the list of "things you just do not do. Ever."?
You know, like cloning humans. Slavery.
I am sure there are others, but this belongs, in my book.

Wonder how oligarchs get to be oligarchs?

Russia has likely lost one-third of its combat forces in Ukraine, UK Defense Ministry says

    https://www.foxnews.com/world/russia-lost-one-third-combat-forces-ukraine-uk-intel-defense-ministry
From what I heard and understand Russia has lost 1/3 of the troops initially sent to invade. The number i saw was an estimate of 27k. So they are saying Russia had 90k troops at the onset of the invasion and have lost roughly 1/3.

The Russian military is much larger but spread out.

Ukrainian Soldiers Lay Down Arms at Mariupol’s Azovstal Steel Plant

Brave lads. They fought for a long time, isolated from all support. They were ordered to lay down their arms in order to save all the wounded, who could not receive aid and were dying.

Russia paid a steep price for this victory.

I am reminded of a song of the Irish rebellion containing the lyrics:

"We may have brave men, but we'll never have better: Glory Oh, Glory Oh"

You need not agree with their cause to see they are among the bravest men of this age.
