Father was in the Air Force for 21 years as a pilot and all my family are Southwest Texans. I was born in Cali only because he was stationed there for 6 months. Even at that, I am a true Texan with a big Texas accent and there is no doubt that I am Texan Through and Out! Don't ever call me anything else!!!

All y’all Californians coming here and acting like y’all are the savior of Texas can gargle the sweat off my ballsack.

Y’all are immigrants and immigration without assimilation is invasion.

That is all.
I‘m from California. I moved here when I retired cause I didn’t like California. Brought my pension and money to spend here. F you and f your bitch attitude. That is all.

I’m from California. I’ve been in texas for two years now, after a lifetime in California. I came here to live free, and that’s what I’m doing. I’m not here to tell anyone anything - or to listen to anything an opinionated Texan has to say. I read posts on Nextdoor, and surprisingly, many lifelong Texans seem to be as delicate as the Californians I left behind. Ex. “Someone parked in front of my house. The nerve!” and “Someone has a rooster that won’t shut up!”

Texas needs a law stating that new arrivals have to maintain a Texas residence for five years before being eligible to vote in state and local elections. They can still vote for Fed offices, but not anything under state jurisdiction.

Fine. And while we’re waiting to vote, we’ll receive full exemption from property taxes.

Mom and dad were passing though San Antonio and I was born at Lackland AFB in 1948. So I am a Texan by birth. I claim my Texan status by thought and deed too. So I ain't gargling nothing...but maybe some Listerine as a courtesy after a big bowl of kimchi. Had to get that out of the way.

I was passing through Florida in 1982 to attend a Navy school in the Pensacola area. I liked the area so much that I wrangled a transfer here in 1986. Bought a house a dozen miles north of I-10 out in the sticks and retired here in 1991. Out here in the far western Florida Panhandle it's purt near Alabama. The border is 9 miles away. Though I never lived in Texas I imagine that where I live is about the same as Texas. Same Gulf Coast weather. Good people, even homogenous...hold similar values, we get along well with each other. Decent cost of living. Not near any big shithole cities. Solidly Conservative. Been here 36 years. But recently things have been changing. Real estate prices have skyrocketed. People with different accents are moving in. More out-of-state license plates. Not that many from California but plenty from the Rust Belt and New England. Don't get me started about all those Quebec plates heading south on I-75. But this is a Navy town so out-of-state plates don't mean much. The rest of Florida is getting lots of immigrants too, both illegal and domestic. Demographics is destiny. It's a free country. People can still pick up and move where they want. I'm just saying that the Titanic appears to be sinking and there isn't enough room on the lifeboats.

Leaping Gebbus! We won the Cold War. I never saw this sh_t coming.

I brought 6 other God-fearing, conservative, intelligent and humble adults with me to Texas in 2018. Yep, we came from Commiefornia.

You can see even in my screen name that I was committed to surviving California and one of the constructs to support that survival, in addition to tireless hard work and faith in God, was moving to a place where I could continue its tradition of those very tenets.

We 7 vote to keep Texas what you natives created. We live to keep Texas what you natives created. We work, pay taxes, maintain our homes, buy local food, buy Texan products first, then American second if not made in Texas.

One thing I did bring from Cali was grit. That state is set up to work against the ideals I was raised on - yes, ideals that exist for many here in Texas and believe it or not, originated for us in California. Ideals that came from our family’s prior generations.

Said grit means I’m not internet hurt over toddnjoyce ’s rant. I lived a similar frustration seeing CA go down the tube. At the end of the day and for those who know my family and I aside from the interwebs in the real world know my integrity to Texas, to my family and to God is lock solid. As such, I sleep well.

I’ve met toddnjoyce and many other TGT’ers in person. Shook hands, broke bread and that was the real sense of them as gentlemen and this thread doesn’t change that for me.

C'mon, don't beat around the bush.

Tell us how you really feel?

When I (hopefully) get to Texas, it will be to escape the loonies up here in Massachusetts.

Please save me a place at the table.

What makes you think people who move here from California were liberals all their lives and then suddenly professed conservatism when they got here? I'm a lifelong conservative, pro-2A in a very anti-2A state, retired LE and former military who was born and raised in California. My political views were diametrically opposed to those of my parents and many of my friends, not to mention my state legislature, which has been a one-party leftist battering ram for decades.

I make no pretense about being a Texan. I love it here, but I am quite clear that while I am a proud Texas resident, I will never be a Texan or a cowboy. I moved here to get away from the leftist garbage stack happening in California...to which I NEVER consented and for which I NEVER voted. I consider my ability to vote here in Texas to be a way to assist other Texas conservatives to resist blue invasion, which is clearly happening in your major metro areas...and folks, it's not all out of state immigrants voting blue...they wouldn't provide enough votes to get your native leftists into office. Many native Texans are voting for people like Robert Francis O'Rourke, leftist school board members, leftist reformist DAs in the metro areas, leftist city council members, and so on. If you think you can live without my vote for the next five years to help you hold on to what you have, you're walking a tightrope with a blindfold on-no disrespect intended.

I take the op as an issue with culture. We all have our vision of it, especially locals.
