The words you wrote don't mesh up with anything else you said before that. You do, in fact act like you're better than everyone else who didn't have the priviledge of being born in this state. You don't show any respect for anyone here that wasn't born in this state. Your lack of respect and decorum demonstrated in this post and earlier posts don't mesh with the claim you were raised with morals and respect - instead you spit nothing but hatred for anyone not with a Texas birth certificate. You didn't show up anywhere acting like you're better, because you admittedly have never left Texas - so you didn't have to go anywhere to act like you're better than anyone else - you're doing a fine job of it right here.

And @majormadmax must not be clarivoiant to know that you were birthed in Washington County - your fucking profile says you're from Austin. If you're so proud of being in Williamson County, or being from Washington County - why don't you list that instead of "Austin" in your profile?

There is literally nothing quite more American than uprooting natives and colonizing. That's literally what the founders of this nation did. They fled a place that was hostile to them and their beliefs, their way of life, then set out on a 200+ year campaign to displace the native people of the land and take it for their own, founding a new nation. Did you sleep through American history? More and more invaders - ie settlers - came from all over Europe. They reproduced, they fought wars with the natives. Killed a bunch. Took some women for their own. Eventually put them on reservations so they can pretend they still have their ancestoral homes. Unless you're a full blood native - your precious Texan ancestors likely did the same damn thing. There are no white men native to any part of the American continents.

European blooded settlers literally "stole" Texas from Mexico via their declaration of independence, right there in Washington on the Brazos where you are so proud to be from, just like the European blooded settlers in New England did a few decades earlier by declaring the colonies its own nation.

America is a nation founded on conquest and the uprooting of those who were here first. To the victors went the spoils. Our European ancestors won the war against England, and the European ancestors of today's "native" Texans won their war against Mexico, before they relinquished sovereignty and joined the United States.

The only real honest to God native Texans are the Native Americans whose ancestors were here before the first Spaniard, Viking, Englishman, or Frenchman ever set foot on North American soil. If you're a white man, you're no more "native" than any other euromutt inhabiting this lovely piece of conquered land - be it Texas, Oregon, Virginia, Massachusetts or California.

You've pointed out before you're entitled to your opinion - as we all are thanks to our God given rights, regardless of how ignorant, hypocritical or retarded it may be. To echo your own sentiment regarding us invaders from the west - I dont' care how you handle it. You can't change us moving here anymore than we could change the political landscape in whatever liberal hell hole we've come from. Cry about it. If it gets to expensive, you can always move, just like we had to. Maybe New Mexico or Oklahoma would welcom you as a refugee. Given I've got kin in Oklahoma, I can vouch that while they're their own special way of fucked up, they're generally welcoming people like most real Texans have proven to be, unlike some of the voices that've popped up in this thread.
Not to expensive for me, once again I’m speaking on what I see happening to my community. If you take facts as hatred so be it.

It is difficult for the DoD to retain such talent when the commercial industry is paying so well.
Back when I had skills that were in demand, decades ago, I got offered positions at various multiples of my government salary more than once. It wasn't an everyday thing but at least a couple of times a year someone would offer me twice, three times, four times or more what I was making to jump ship. Those jobs came with a theoretical workday of 24/7/365 and a strong vibe that I would be trading a normal job for virtual slavery.

However, they also inevitably offered me stock. The pitch was always the same. "Five years of ridiculous work and you can cash out as a millionaire."

No one ever gave me the impression they wanted to build a foundation for anything, only that they wanted to put up a facade they could run away from for cash in the near future. I didn't feel (and, yes, it was pure gut instinct; if I rationally approached the numbers, I would have left) that any of them were people worth my respect and labor.

I continued to just be that guy in the back of the server room who nobody seems to know what his job is because nothing ever seems to go wrong and little things get a little better every week.

Maybe I just didn't have an adventurous spirit. Maybe I was lazy.

But every company that ever tried to poach me flamed out and died within 2 years. Most of them within 1 year.

I said all that to say that if the DoD is having trouble retaining people, the commercial side is either paying much more than I can imagine or the commercial side is a good deal more stable than it once was.

Kind of feels like the current boom.

In the fintech space, I can say this is the case for the tech people we are hiring.

For the skills we are looking for, our tech pay band is entirely separate from everything else. It is also exponentially higher across all the levels from entry to most experienced.

For perspective most of our mid-level tech people are paid at a rate where that has them phased out of being able to contribute to a Roth IRA regardless of filing status. That’s before performance bonus.

A lot of experts out there quick to give history lessons, while pissing all over said history. Some will never let the past go and it shows.

Coming full circle, you’re either Texan or your not. The mindset is about being here now, not being from some where else in the past.

In short, if you gotta ask yourself or defend about being Texan, you ain’t.
You’re just describing being a man. You can say exactly what you posted and insert state of your choice.

I agree with you. The problem is national.

You’re welcome to pm me to know why I consider myself a Texan. I just can’t post it publicly right now. But your comments mean more to me than most with what’s going on.

Being born in Texas doesn't necessarily make a person a Texan IMO. I have met more than few that came from other states to live here, that I consider to be Texans.

I have entertained an entire gaggle of them at my home here in East Texas!
