    Attn SGA Customers:
Due to an unforeseen issue between the Women's Self Defense Expo organizer and Thunder Gun Range, SGA has been strongly encouraged not to attend the expo by Thunder Gun Range due to the conflict of interest as competitors. Our understanding was that the event was an open forum expo for the benefit of female shooters, that we were initially invited to.

Unfortunately, we will not be attending the Women's Expo this weekend. We regret any inconvenience to our customers caused by this unfortunate, last minute decision However, we are still offering discounted ladies only classes and training at SGA. (See Below)

I always hear screwed up stories about the owner of Thunder gun range. Not many good things are said about him.

Stopped going there a while ago. Can not stand Jessie! I use to go once or twice a week. Last time I was there he accused me of shooting his target. I was on lane 7, his target was on 1. I told him I didn’t shoot his damn target. He kept pressing the issue, telling the range officer (he didn’t realize I could hear with my electronic ear pro)to charge me for an extra target. I lost it on him, packed my shit and left. Haven’t been back since. Most unsafe range Ive ever been to, on top of everything else.

Thunder Gun sure has managed to get lots of space on TGT over the years. See here, here and here for a start. Some of that info is positive, some negative, and it's all mostly out of date.

They seem to operate in their own universe. "Out of date" is likely a result of many just not going there anymore. I can't remember how many years it's been since I was there. It has a strange vibe. Every other range I've been to has it's good and bad points, but at the end of the day they are all fairly similar. Thunder is not similar to anything. Don't get me wrong; they've never done anything to get on my bad side. It just somehow pushes buttons that make me uneasy.

The owner Jessie has a history of this kind of behavior and I have talked with various shooting groups who also share negative contact with Jessie. I am not a customer of him but I was for SGA and was willing to patronize with my daughter as she is a female shooter. SGA developed this coordination with him but last minute changed his mind citing conflict of interest which many of us feel is BS. I know Jessie can run his business anyway he sees fit but at the same time we the customers are his lifeline to his living and stuff like this can easily sway people away.

Strange vibe is right. You have horses and donkeys up front and a damn Homeland Security firearms range in the back.

I don't know what that means. I found their ranges to be lacking in many ways, definitely not something that any competent federal agency would use. Then again, I haven't been there in a long time.

Would you mind clarifying your terminology?

With the land they have, it could be one of the best ranges in the state! But every area I used looked like it was thrown together with scrap wood from old pallets. I don’t need any modern amenities, but when you number your 100 yard lanes, go ahead and make sure they all actually have numbers. There were times they would tell me to go to lane 5, and I would have to look around and find one that has a number by it, and count over to find where I needed to be! I decided to check out their handgun steel area one day, and they just told me to drive around back (it’s right behind the berm from one of their rifle ranges!) and I was on my own back there. I consider myself competent and safe, but imagine if I wasn’t. They must have some kind of training area for LE, because I would always see uniformed men/women there.

They do. Several Federal Law Enforcement groups have contracted with Jessie but I talked with the LEO instructors and they want to pull out citing poor conditions and lack of structures for their increased needs. Last I heard they are considering moving to Trinity Firearms range as the management has promised better conditions. If Jessie would come back to reality he can make it an awesome range.

Why do the Homeland Security guys give a bad vibe? I talk with them and they feel the same way about Thunder just like you and me. My kids would love the horses and donkeys but then again I heard Jessie hates kids since he does not allow 4H shooting teams to practice there.

US Customs and Border Protection has a firing range and a large building that houses offices and classrooms at the back of the property. I've shot on it several times during 3 gun matches there.

All of the bays that the USPA and IDPA shooters use are closer to the front. But he has built large training bays in the back. Its actually a nice setup and works out good for competitions. Plus CBP has their range in the very back.

You misunderstood my post. He just needs to clean it up a bit. The whole place looks cobbled together. I've shot at the CBP range many times I'm ok with that. Picked many 5 gallon buckets of brass from that range too.

Okay just wondering. He needs to do more than just clean up and he needs to change his business ethics. I am surprised he let you pick up brass as the number one complaint about him was he accuses people of stealing brass even though people bought them. He has this belief once the brass falls to the floor he owns them automatically.

We had our own RSO's for matches and when we broke down the stages I would gather up brass and shotgun shells. Jessie and his minions never came back there.

Your group must be on his good side as he and his minions constantly spy on groups in their golf carts.

I almost want to go to that range just to see if I can piss off the nutball owner.

Cedar Ridge Range over by San Antonio used to have a whackadoodle owner as well.
That won't be hard. Just be yourself and have common sense and he will find a way to either take as much money from you or complain about little crap.
