We can now see the pitiful excuse the opposition has come up with regarding open carry of handguns:

It will make people under 21 buy handguns and this is against a federal law...

Easy to shoot that claim down. Federal law only says you have to be 21 to buy from a dealer and OK's state law says you can buy anything at 18 from a private seller. On top of that, I'm sure the background check will catch this if someone under 21 tries to buy a handgun at a dealer and the transfer will be denied.

    What did I say... Pitiful.

I am not a TSRA member and I never will be to that worthless group. They have done good work in the past, but when they ignore the positives in the advancement of gun rights not sanctioned by them they can choke on a cock.

    Comments from Oklahoma's gun leaders..............

Last year, the NRA was largely responsible for our inability to get enough
votes to override Governor Henry's veto of the licensed open carry bill that
passed both chamber with overwhelming support (by the way, we found very
quickly this year that many of the Republicans that voted for it last year
only did so because they knew the Governor would veto it). The NRA sent a
letter to every legislator last year telling them that open carry was not
their priority. Not their priority? The Second Amendment is not their
priority? The ORA has always walked in lockstep, of course. That was why
we founded OK2A in 2009 - we were sick and tired of their willingness to
compromise away our rights. So, Dave, you hit the nail on the head when you
said they've probably been off track for a very long time.

This is the reason I am not a member of the NRA right now, you don't get to vote on how they represent you, you take the good with the bad. Once I look into it more about the only reason I really liked me NRA membership was for the legal support they would provide if you needed them, and for the insurance on your firearms. The ILA part of it does not impress me...

I am a member of the NRA. Each year I get to vote for directors to represent me. My wife is also a member and gets to vote for directors to represent her. We don't, as members, get to vote on individual issues, but I guess that's kinda like our US political system.

Big deal, you get to vote for the directors, just like when you vote for a politician, they probably tell you what they will do if elected. Ultimately you have 0 control over what they do once elected. So tomorrow if the NRA just up and decided to say they disapprove of Concealed Carry in the entire country what are you going to do about it until the next election? Everyone just puts faith in the system, to me somewhat blind faith, but then they hail the NRA as a requirement for all gun owners who want their guns to be kept. Then they use scare tactics to tell you your guns will get taken away if you don't support them. I would just kind of stay back and watch what everyone else is doing, not really sure if I want to jump headfirst into the pool, ya know. I am not attacking you personally either, each member of the NRA is in the same spot as you, its just a philosophical problem I have with the whole process...

I have been searching and can find no reference to any letter sent by the NRA to every OK legislator. Looked real hard at ok2a.org. If you could provide a link to such letter or a copy of it I would appreciate it.

TSRA has not supported Open Carry. How is this any different?

Has TSRA openly OPPOSED Open Carry? Not to my knowledge. The ORA has. I cannot use the language to adequately describe how I feel about that position or than I call it DELIBERATE SABOTAGE to people trying to protect and regain temporarily abdicated rights.

I don't want to rile Mr.Texas Redneck or anybody else but were it not for the National Rifle Association, The Gun Owners of America, and a couple of other Pro
2nd Amendment Gun Organizations we Americans would likely have been neutered to the sickly British Citizen's lack of ability to own or posess firearms and even use deadly force to prevent someone from killing us. No, the Gun Freedom Organizations are not all perfect, they face some of the most conniving, underhanded,
leftist scum of the earth who continually by every means possible attermpt to disarm you and I and they are at it at this very moment in Washington and elsewhere. Who else would there be to battle Sarah whatzhername and obastard and their types and organizations ? Why not we join hands and tell our organizations what we want and support them in trying to obtain it rather than fighting among ourselves ?

This quote is my main issue with "joining the ranks". I understand you may not like the president, but you should at least have the respect to not refer to him as Obastard, its simply not appropriate. 30 years ago people in this country would never have dissrespected our highest office like this all the time. The folks from the NRA don't have to use this language with what they are doing, but yet so many other 2A folks use your name, and then a couple years ago were calling the healthcare reform Obamacare, which is simply a wrong label. You have the right to say whatever you want, thankfully we have that ability, its just important to remember how you may look to others when you use this language. You are never going to win over someone who is on the left, or maybe even on the middle by referring to President Obama as Obastard..

Lox, let me ask you....how did the media treat either of the Bush's while they served as President? How about the rest of the media?

Proper? No....but after a while, folks get sick and tired of listening to the name-calling from the other side all the time. And go listen to how gun owners are referred to in the media - and then tell ME how I should talk about others.
