Same here! I got a ton of them is a kid. Cut yourself on a rusty mason jar lid - tetanus shot. Step on a nail - tetanus shot. Get a rusty staple from tar paper in your hand - tetanus shot. Get a tree branch (huge splinter) stuck in your calf while you're trying to climb up a tree - tetanus shot.

And, yet, I never really heard of anyone getting lockjaw?

I guess that's because they were handing out tetanus shots left and right!!!
I had to refresh my memory of it as well.

A serious bacterial infection that causes painful muscle spasms and can lead to death.
Tetanus is a potentially fatal bacterial infection that affects the nerves. A vaccine can easily prevent the infection, which has no cure.
Tetanus causes painful muscle contractions, particularly in the jaw and neck. It can interfere with the ability to breathe, eventually causing death.
    Treatment focuses on managing complications.

    Extremely rare
Fewer than 1,000 US cases per year

    Preventable by vaccine

    Treatable by a medical professional

Spreads by contact with a contaminated object or surface

    Requires a medical diagnosis

Lab tests or imaging not required

    Medium-term: resolves within months

    Critical: needs emergency care

I injured myself plenty as a kid, never went to the doc so no shots. 16d nail through the foot (and shoe). Some random stick jabs the bottom of my foot, chunk breaks off, won't heal for weeks. Finally dig out the chunk, heals right up. Untold number of cuts from all kinds of stupid stuff. Maybe I had a tetanus shot at some point, who knows. Didn't have good records. I did have to get a bunch of shots before they'd let me graduate high school though.

I remember having to have shots to get in school but not to get out. But then again, most of them couldn't get rid of me fast enough.

Yes, lots of those too. Never broke a bone but dislocated a few. I had a scan done about 10 years ago for right side pain where they mentioned a cracked rib...on the left side. They said it was very old. Ah, that's why I hurt so bad after running my bicycle into the back of the next door neighbors pickup and cracking it's forks at the stem when I was about 12 or 13.

" you people call me stupid". great one! Hobble to the house with part of a 2x4 nailed to bottom of shoe. Off to get a tetanus shot. Thought you only got tetanus from smelling powder from used cap gun. That's what granny told me.

Thats incredible! What luck! Check this out...

I can't remember his name, although I'm pretty sure that wasn't it. He was a headmaster (British school) on Grand Bahama Island in the late 60's, early 70's. I do remember the cricket bat with holes drilled into it hanging behind his desk. Glad I never got to experience what that bat felt like.

Yeah, me too - My adult Granddaughters, in their mid and very early twenties so they could continue with their college educations.

    No jab - No college...ugh!

I wish I'd tried to convince them to go to trade schools...where there's 'probably' less jab mandates, though I don't know that for certain.

Nope. Any cut, especially requiring stitches, with something dirty. Jab.
I have had more nails in and through, my feet than I can count. More jabs.
The tops of both feet, at separate times, scraped off down to the meat. More jabs.
My feet and knees side by side are noticeably different shapes.
Both arms from shoulder to finger tips, every joint smashed or dislocated at least once. Most fingers multiple times.
I have tried counting the scars on my forearms and hands and keep losing count.
So much for the idea that pain teaches you what not to do.......

Several years ago, I was driving a van filled with high-resolution video and computer equipment to CA for a big work project, and I was driving thru Flagstaff at 4am, pitch dark, in whiteout snow conditions. I couldn't see a single thing, and I was on a strict deadline. It was like piloting a plane thru thick fog and not being IFR certified. I used the ribbed road shoulder, driving by "braille" with my right tires, on interstate 40 where the speed limit is 75mph, at 35 mph. Big rigs were passing me at 60+mph, it was f****** scary. When basketball player Kobe Bryant died in a copter crash a year later, at the time I thought about my drive through Flagstaff. I'll never do that again.
I40 thru there can get rather sporty.

Had a buddy who thought he would try out for the stuntman for the tv show "Dukes of Hazzard'". I was with him when he jumped his Ford Gran Torino over an old creek where there were parts of the bridge on both sides still left. We didn't make it, the car rolled end over end three times and we had to be cut out of the car by the fire department.

I used to ride wheelies on my Schwinn 15 speed bike for a full city block. Had to replace the front rim about every 4-6 months from the impact of coming down so hard.

We used to climb the main water tower in downtown Victoria and slide down the overflow pipe like a fireman's pole.

I lived in Flagstaff for 17 years, driving on I-40 or I-17 in the dark at the onset of a winter storm was never a pleasant.
