They were still issued to some of the armor crews at Ft Carson in '82 so I got to check one out then. I did not get a chance to try one on the range until a few years ago at the Abilene Indoor Gun Range. It is a robust weapon and fun to shoot.

    Gunz are icky.
Buddy of mine was an Army tanker in Germany late 70’s/early 80’s. They were issued M3’s.
He related they were very worn.

My Dad was in the USAF and stationed for a time in Tripoli during the Korean War. A colonel came storming into the office one day and tried to enter a security area (coding, I think) and the sergeant at the desk told him no. The colonel tried to shove his way on in and the sergeant grabbed an M3 and stuck it in his chest. Everyone just froze for a moment, then the colonel smiled, pulled out some ID and congratulated the sergeant for passing a security test.

    Out here by the lake!
i shot a full auto grease gun at the local range cuz they rent machineguns and it is honestly the best experience ever, 10/10 best subgun in the world.
It good but, hardly the best. A Sterling is a sweeter shooter. The H&K MP5 is even better.

PDW have taken over from the sub guns and some sub guns are personal defense weapons. My MP5K is considered a a PDW. Having shot a H&K MP7, my first thoughts doing so this is the future.

Then reality strikes and “Commando” length M4s step up and start filling the role that sub guns filled.

You could probably fire a semi-auto clone faster. Isn't the ROF something like 300 or 400 RPM.

I don't think it would be very exciting after the first mag just to say you've shot one before.

Yeah.....but M4s really don't fill that role. You can't supress them effectively, they weigh a lot more than modern subguns, and close-range wound ballistics don't really favor the 5.56 that much over 9mm and .45ACP. The US military has recently adopted a B&T 9mm subgun for these purposes.

as far as simple tube guns go, I feel the grease gun is the best bang for your buck, plus .45 is very good for throwing a can on it to make fairly quiet and the low fire rate makes it a joy to shoot and fairly accurate as well for an open bolt tube gun. fillipino grease gun tacticool.jpg
