hi everyone, the left one is a new purchase / right is my current mag. what’s with the extra cutouts on the new magazine? it functions but requires holding in the mag catch while inserting.
is the magazine a cougar / 92 combo (supposed to work in both)?

    I’m confused…

I am almost positive that the extra cut is for it to work on a Taurus PT92 which has a magazine well that is the same as Beretta's but the release cut is in a different area. They are not favored since as you discovered, you must hold in the mag release to get by that first cut.

I mistakingly bought a PT92 clip at a pawn shop real cheap because I thought it would work in my FS92. It didn’t. Kept sliding out because would not lock in place

The Beretta 92 and Taurus PT92 mag release cutouts are essentially in the same place, but the Taurus cutout is about twice as "tall". A Taurus mag in a Beretta should fit but will sag down about 1/8" too low to function.

I have no idea why that Beretta mag has the large high additional cut. Best guess: it is manufactured for a different Beretta firearm that has a higher mag release cutout and otherwise can take a Beretta 92 magazine, so Beretta decided to save money by just making the higher cut to existing magazines.

Do yourself a favor, buy and use only OEM magazines in your Beretta 92FS. You are risking your life using a magazine that obviously does not fit properly into your pistol; there is zero need to depress the mag release to load a proper 92FS mag into an unmodified 92FS.

It doesn't pay to cut corners on the things you must depend on - whether guns, cars or other necessities.
All of my Berettas use Beretta magazines - 100% dependable.

The Taurus slot I am pretty sure is further down the magazine, I will check in the morning, I have both. I know this as I've tried to see if I have a Magholder that will fit the PT92 but it doesn't work well cause the insert is further down. The 92FS works great and is in the typical location that most magazines have the insert cutout.
