Yeah, if this keeps up, Texas is going to lose it's reputation as the 'wild west'.
I really hope not......its one of the things that helps keep the gun haters away. My son lives in Conroe in a very nice subdivision. Recently he was carrying some gun cases with rifles to his SUV and was carrying his handgun concealed on his hip. He bent over to lay the cases in the back of the SUV and a "snowflake" neighbor saw the butt of the gun and freaked out and called the police. When they arrived he was freaking out and he was screaming and pointing at my son from his front porch, " He's Got A Gun...He's Gonna Kill Someone" over and over again. The LEO came over to my son who presented him with his LTC and the LEO asked for his gun, ran the serial number on his gun to assure it was not stolen and gave it back to him. The whole time this "snowflake" was hollering "Careful Careful he might shoot you". The LEO apologized to my son then went back to the "snowflake" who wanted to know why he was not going to arrest him. The LEO told him that he was breaking no laws and had a LTC, plus there were both open carry and concealed carry laws in Texas. The guy was screaming " What the hell kind of Wild West state have I moved into?". My son went about his business. Two days later the "snowflake" moved his family back to Oregon where he had transferred with his company from.

Agreed...I just wish there were more leaving for the same reason. My best friend used to live in Austin, but the "snowflakes" have taken over that town so he moved to a gun friendlier town. He said they are constantly looking for people carrying guns, concealed or open carry and want to make everyone aware around that there is a "Nut with a gun". He was in a store and he actually had a guy, who noticed a bulge under his shirt, reach from behind and tap the side of his holster and ask him loudly "are you carrying a gun"? My buddy said loudly "Not that its any of your f___ing business, but that's my insulin pump. I am a diabetic." The "snowflake" turned red and walked away. Just then an older lady came up behind him and whispered, " I call mine a Chemo Pump for my Cancer", like you it shuts them down pretty quickly.

It's not that hard to get a concealed carry license in Oregon, but then I guess, if you don't see it, it doesn't exist.

I haven't seen any reports of the carnage in the streets if Texas allowed one to legally carry a gun without asking for permission. During debate on the bill in legislature it was all dome and gloom by the anti-constitution carry Dems. So far not much seems to have happened which is a good thing. And nothing about any problems in other states that went permitless carry before Texas.

One comment I heard before Gov Abbott signed the bill is that most who wanted to carry were already doing so under the CHL/LTC law. As mentioned elsewhere on this forum people find out real quick how much a pain in the ass (hips, shoulders, back, leg) carrying any gun on a regular basis can become. If you have carried for awhile I bet you have a box with all the failed belts, holsters accessories that didn't work for you while trying to carry a gun all the time. And you tried different types of guns. I started with small frame revolvers and later switched to large frame semi-autos and when they came out back down to small frame semi-autos.
There is still great value in being a CHL holder. There is reciprocity with many states. Without your CHL you will not be able to carry outside the border of Texas.

Shit, its easier to get a CHL in Oregon than in Texas - as there's no range proficiency requirement there, and you can do the class online.

Until the last election when a bunch of bullshit got passed, Oregon's carry laws were actually a lot more permissive than Texas' as well - no force-of-law to any signs (real prohibited places were enumerated in the law), you could carry into any school or college, churches, hospitals, nursing homes - all places you could carry. Open carry without a permit state-wide, except in a handful of cities with ordinances against it - which a CHL would render void (meaning you could carry openly if a CHL holder).

Last election go-round the lefties pulled off a win for their team and there are more restrictions where you can carry, and they keep pushing "safe storage" bullshit, even though Heller explicitly bans such laws.

In my brief history with the gun related stuff, and being an instructor, I've seen the historical trend repeat itself every time. Oddly, politicians aren't students of history.

Dates may be off, but you get the idea.

CHL passes in 1994(?). Libs cry out there will be blood in the streets if everyone has a gun. Didn't happen.

2018(?) Campus carry passes. A teacher from Rice came in and was hysterical. Said he had tenured professor friends at Rice and t.u. who were leaving their careers because they were afraid for their lives. I asked what she was afraid of. "What if I give someone a B and they want me to change it to an A and they stick a gun in my face?" My response: "so a licensee who has effectively no criminal history is only prevented from committing felony assault to change a B to an A by the fact that it's illegal for him to carry his gun on campus even with the license?" And these people are getting big bucks to teach your kids. Net effect: no mass shootings on campuses by licensees.

2019(?) Open carry passes. Libs say there will be shoot outs at high noon! It'll be like the wild west with everyone carrying guns (remember, all it did was say you didn't have to conceal it). Even in my store I rarely see an open carry even to this day.

2021. Permitless carry gets Texas in line with many other states. Once again, leading from behind. "Oh the humanity! Everyone will have a gun!!!" Sales surged with COVID and riots and defund the police, but not with con-carry.

The only thing we've seen throughout this is that where a good guy has a gun, the body count is typically less. Where were all those guns the libs worried about in El Paso? Why WEREN'T Texans carrying en masse? 33 people died and it was largely preventable if just a few good people carried guns.

There should be repercussions for this. First, with permitless carry and no violation of the laws apparent, the cops should not be able to run serial numbers. Seems like an illegal search. Presumed innocence. Furthermore, because the person called in what amounts to a false report, she used public resources and also disturbed the peace. Cite her for disorderly conduct or something. You can't yell fire in a crowded theater and you shouldn't be able to SWAT your neighbor. "He's got a gun!" has gotten people killed.

Oh I disagree. You can yell fire in a crowded theater especially if there is a fire. If you do and there is no fire then you should be severely punished. :)

Fixed it for you. It's perfectly legal to shout "fire" in a crowded theater if there is no fire...as long as you don't cause a panic. If you cause a panic, then it's a public nuisance, and you might get a small fine.

Ah, but if you bring this up to a leftist, they'll trot out the tired old "myth of the good guy with a gun" argument. See, if an armed individual stops a mass shooting, then there wasn't a mass shooting so it doesn't count. If there is a mass shooting, but an armed citizen stops the shooter, then the armed citizen didn't do enough and therefore guns don't stop mass shootings.

That cop really had no right or reason to run a gun serial number after given a LTC. That is really strange

Maybe I'm missing something, but was your son on his private property? From the way you are telling the story, I'm going to make that assumption.

Your son had no obligation to have to show his LTC being private property, and had no obligation to turn over his handgun to be "checked" out without a warrant.

Exactly this being the way our rights are eroded, is with complying with LE officers making unlawful demands of citizens.
