What are the legal implications of carrying a pistol that was bought private party? Should I get it transferred into my name? I bought it from a friend that was the original owner. Thanks in advance.
WTF is registered to the owner.

Bingo! What is the first thing the ATF would do after a gun was used in a shooting even if it was later found to be totally legal?
So, you're on some kind of witch hunt; wish you were clear about that earlier, I wouldn't have bothered.

Good luck registering a gun in Texas.

So when you fill out a 4473 with all of your information and the firearms serial number they just throw that information away when you pass the background check?

The FFL is obligated to file it for 25 years and after that, they can trash it, even though the BATF asks they turn it in. Registries are illegal..........at this point in free states.

What if a guy was carrying a gun in Texas that he registered with the Sheriff of the county he bought it in New Mexico, then moved to TX and was caught with it driving a pickup truck belonging to his cousin who was visiting from Oklahoma?

I edited the thread title because I used the R word for lack of a better term. If a gun is used in a shooting (even a completely lawful one) the gun is subject to an FFL search and subsequent review by LE. That said if the gun was not used by the purchaser on record with the FFL does this cause any possible problems for the person who originally bought the gun then sold it private party? What about the person that used said firearm? Now put yourself in a leftist city in Texas.
