Up until 3 years ago I lived in a very rural area where they started adding line-of-sight towers. A great alternative for areas that will never see fiber at their homes. Unfortunately it takes time to build out all those sites.

I had Wild blue before it became Via Sat and was not impressed with them at all slow signal and their customer service sucked. I now have a local internet that uses line of sight signal which is much better.

I had Wildblue/Viasat for 15 years. Service was OK and typically got 10-12 MBPS down. The bad part was the data limit and it was $84/month @ 25G/month. It ruled out streaming as our norm was around 20G w/o it. CenturyLink at my house is 1-2MBPS down on a good day. DSL not available. Recently Nextlink started building towers around me. Bad part is I'm surrounded by 55' tall Oak trees. Viasat pissed me off and I cancelled. Tried Consumer Celluar with our phones. Sorta OK, not fast but worked. Last month I installed a tower to clear the trees and support a few ham antennas also. I have their bottom rung service. 15 MBPS down and it does it. $50/month No data limit. We have enjoyed streaming movies for abt 2 weeks, no problems even with HD. During the install he showed me the max at my location, 150MBPS. WOW It just takes money.

Axxe not knowing where you are you might look them up. They're based in Granbury but have systems all over the US and building more all the time. When they scheduled my install it was 3 weeks out, busy little beavers. The 2 installers also had 2 trainees. Great people, never heard so many Yes'sirs and No'Sirs in my life.

Life in the country ain't bad at all now.....

I talked to Windstream the other day, since I keep getting their flyers in the mail advertising their new internet service Kinetic.

I told them unless they would run all new line too our house from the service box, I couldn't us them.

Line of sight isn't an option for our area yet, so that's not an option either, yet. Might be something to consider in the future though.

Looks like next month, we might give ViaSat a try out and see how good or crappy they might be.

I used satellite for a couple years. I’ll do without internet before using that crap again. And we did for a long time, no service aside from what we got on our phones.

Because years ago, the line running from the box to the house was cut in several places when they cleaned the ditches with a Gradall. The serviceman just spliced and buried the cable and for four years, the phone service and internet were total crap. It needs a new cable ran from the box to the house.

Other than Windstream, or HughesNet, that's all the options we have. We are too far out to rely on our phones for internet. The cell reception isn't strong enough or reliable.

I had DirecTV for 22 years
I had them at my rural house and ranch cabin

I stopped when we had fiber here at the house and to get TV at the cabin we just use a wifi Hotspot
The charge is under $20 month because it's like another phone line

Some companies also sell these much higher speed for full time RV people for a few hundred bucks and they say they work great for anyone who is rural otherwise needs dependable wifi
You just have to some some level of cell signal that's it.

In the same boat, tried satellite, ViaSat is better than Hughes, neither is great. Had Verizon Home Fusion, use LTE with a "cantenna" mounted outside the house cabled to a router inside, spotty but when the stars aligned, fast.

Trying out Verzion "Data only" plan, 150Gb "high speed" data cap via a Jet Pack mobile hotspot. None I've found are truly unlimited, speeds are throttled after the cap is reached. Cell signal is nearly non-existent here, added a small external antenna to the Jetpack (8800L), much better speed. Streaming Amazon, Disney, etc. no problem.

I've ordered a Yagi antenna, signal amplifier and an interior antenna to see if I can get better cell signal overall but so far the Verizon Jetpack is working "acceptably". I've never come close to the 150Gb high speed data limit, yet.

I understand the tough position. But strongly recommend not getting stuck in a contract with it so there’s at least an out of it’s your only option. We couldn’t even get dial up at the house. NextLink was what finally came around. We’re in a creek bottom and had to put up a large tower to make it work, but it was worth it.

Hopefully Starlink is the game changer they claim for those still stuck with extremely limited options.

WildBlue either became ViaSat, or they bought WildBlue, or something along those lines.

We did have a two year contract with HugheNet for the equipment lease. We are at about three years, so the equipment now belongs to us. From what I can gather, ViaSat does the same thing. But they are rated better than HughesNet, and have a higher data package for less money.

StarLink is one that is interesting, but there just isn't any real solid information out there about them so far.

Yeah, I’m annoyed with them, but have no other option.

Cell phone hotspot works great with either 4 or 5g. Add a line, get hotspot capable cheap phone, leave phone used in to charger and as they say
