The USS Miller FF 1091 was named after him. It was a Destroyer Escort(DE), which was later reclassified to Knox class Frigate(FF) home ported in Newport RI when decommissioned in the early 90's with all the other FF's. Dorie was also on the Indianapolis when it down, and less than half the crew survived. He was on a total of 4 ships that were lost during WWII, surviving 3 of them.
