I like the gyrations some folks go through when the bill is 8.05 and you hand them a 5, two 2s, and a nickel.

I have no idea how many times I've had to tell people "Just give me back a dollar and everything will be right." Seriously, I give people an amount designed to make it easy for them to hand me back just a couple of whole bills and they can't figure it out.

I grieve, sometimes, for our kids. Then I realize how much they grieve for me that I can't type texts at super-speed with that slide/pause/slide style of typing and I figure it all evens out in the long run.

I learned from my father how to count! Dad was a whiz with mathematics. He could add, subtract, multiply or divide numbers faster in his head than my brother and I could using pencil and paper!

There are lots of high-speed arithmetic tricks that people use to become human calculators. My dad was good at a lot of that and he taught me some. Surprisingly, I use his tricks for estimating things more than I use the actual operations.

Then I look at some of the work done by my sis, the university math major who passed matrices and determinants when when was 18, and I can only ask "Is this stuff supposed to be readable by humans?"

There's a range of abilities when it comes to numbers and mathematical concepts; I've long since come to understand that I'm on the low end of that range. I'm at peace with that.

Quite a few legitimate businesses don't take credit or debit cards.
Only time I got screwed by a "Legitimate business" They didn't take credit cards. later found out - the hard way why that was. Be cause you could not contest the payment due to crappy work they preformed. They had store front, been in business for years and came recommended by the company that built my boat. If a legit company in the retail sector does not take CC's. I'm going somewhere else.

I own a legit business. I do not take credit cards. Have no way to process them and no one has ever asked if I would accept a CC in the 15 years I've been in business. But if someone didn't want to do business with me because I do not take CC's I would fully understand. But... I can provide tons of references if requested.

When I was in grade school, I hated math, and it was one subject I was weakest at. I barely passed fundamental math courses! Once i got into jr. high and high school, I was lucky to have a math teacher, Mr. Sword, (and yes, that was his real name!) that changed math for me and many others, and made it interesting. Math became very important to me because he taught us that math was something we used everyday.

Now, I'm no math genius by any stretch, but I do find math can be fun, and it's something I do use everyday. I can do lots of simple math in my head and can figure out quite a bit with pencil and paper. So I too would be probably at the low range of mathematical abilities as well.

Doug, it's really quite easy to get set up to take credit cards. My brother had to set up his business to take credit cards, because many of the business' he does work for, they use company credit cards. I'd venture a guess, that probably 80% to 85% of his sales are now credit card sales.

You should really look into getting set up to use credit cards. IIRC, you can even get them set up so that you can process them using your smart phone.

Although this is not a credit card post, there are multiple reasons to use a credit card to purchase something. Mainly for me it is to get a rebate on purchases. Example, you buy stamps at the post office (if anyone still does that), you pay list price. Buy them with your credit card and you get rebated x%. Just one example.

When I had a business, one of the reasons I stopped taking credit cards was because of all of the hidden fees. For a little guy, it’s not just 3%. There are other processing fees. When all added up, it was over 10%.

What really pushed me over the edge was when I found out that I WAS paying for all of those perks such as free airline miles and cash rebates.

    Not where you are
The usual excuse for not taking cash has to do with being robbed. What's there to steal if there is no cash in the store.
I can't remember the last time I wrote a check

Write checks for all my payments every month.
Do not and will not do auto pay on anything.

I want control of when and who gets my money.

Has not failed me in over 45 yrs of paying my own bills that way.

My business accepts cash cards and business as well as personal checks.

I also cc daily at work.

Using my CC makes me money....

Hahaha... no it doesn't. Just remember this simple rule.

All costs are passed on to the consumer.

Repeat after me, ALL COSTS are passed on to the consumer. My pricing spreadsheet has a column for credit card fees which is rolled into your cost. Just like I collect taxes on behalf of the government, I collect the fees that fund credit card companies from YOU! You are paying for and so is everyone else using a credit card. Convenience comes with a cost. You are not making money off your credit card no matter what you think by virtue of them being a middleman in the transactions. Nobody is.

No offense personally, just basic economics.

You may very well be right, but if I paid for the same stuff with cash, or a check, it would still cost the same.

Pay for it with a credit card, and I get money back.
    I'm happy with my decision....

Technically you are right as all costs do go to the consumer, but which ones? The cost of postage stamps is fixed and if you pay cash you pay the full price, if you pay cc there will be a cashback. Some business charge an extra fee for cc use, you should pay cash but remember, you don't have the bargaining power a cc use has if you debate the purchase later on. I rarely use cash, pay my bill monthly and get a fairly large cash back. Yes, I am passing my cash back to other consumers and business but that is not my problem. I just follow the rules, pay it off monthly.

We haven't written checks in almost ten years now. Many of our bills are electronically drafted from our checking account and we use either pre-paid credit cards and cash for just about everything else.
Talk about scams! Electronic Drafts are the worst in monthly bills and you'll have less control, but my thoughts only!

If you spend much time looking you'll find tons of discrepancies. Houston phone number. Shipping map shows Wyoming. Then there was this review with a different company name...

    "Happy Customer
I’ve bought numerous firearms, ammo, and collectible items thru Firearms World, and I have always been very happy with the service
    Jack Hunter / New York"

Plus a lot of reviews from NY and NJ. No offense but that seems unlikely. Then they put "USD" in front of the price. Seems odd given the difficulty of exporting.

    Totally bogus.
Not trying to burst your bubble, but USD means used  :roflfunny::rolleyes:.

That's the problem! They only know how to use a calculator and not do math! My kids look at me when I have the problem answered before they hit = and then tell me I'm correct. My reply is "I know I'm correct"!

I use money math for all math equations even non money related. Percentage is coin related and also for odds and ratios. Writing is my least favorite by far and no teacher has made it better! Word problems is another story? I usually read more into it as I understand more than what is in the question when it comes to travel related.
