I need the barrel made for a PKM. I have a drilled and demilled barrel to work off and all necessary dimensions. However every smith I've spoken to has gone dark or is unable to take the job.
I don't suppose anyone here is up for the job or can recommend anyone?
    Thanks folks

Apex Gun Parts has one listed. My guess is that you could buy a parts kit for what it cost to have one made.
Oh those went out of stock almost immediately. Too many people looking. My chances of finding one I can afford that's in stock are unfortunately functionally zero... It turns out a lot of SOTs have plenty of them but they refuse to sell to anyone who isn't an SOT, since it's somehow worth more to the SOT.
So no I expect my only real chance is to have one made.

Poll barn @ Knob Creek or SAR West show are your other options!

And the tour is worth the trip.

    Coop45,

SHILEN is my choice to make me a quality barrel for my latest "planned project" = Building a REMINGTON MODEL 760 PUMP RIFLE (which had a BADLLY PITTED barrel) into a .400 BROWN-WHELEN IMPROVED rifle for HEAVY GAME.
(Short of a T-REX, the .400B-WI will efficiently collect ANY game animal on Planet Earth.)

    Coop45,

    FAIR POINT. = That's WHY I have a REMINGTON .22LR PUMP & a MODEL 870 shotgun, too.

FWIW, my "little brother" CREATED a "small game round" for my Model 760 in 9.3x62mm that has taken a LOT of smaller critters & without ruining a lot of edible meat. IF I asked Ed, he would likely come up with a "smaller game load" for the .400B-WI.
(FYI, I'm quite fond of rabbit/hare, prepared in any number of different styles.= SPRING jackrabbit being GREAT, fried with cream gravy & homemade biscuits. The old jacks are EXCELLENT in stews, cassoulet & when braised.)

BTW, the .400B-WI is potentially THE MOST POWERFUL round that can be made from .30-06 "once fired" brass.
(I get all the Lake City cases, that I want to go pick-up from a local Garand match shooter who doesn't reload, FREE.)

A gun writer back in the 60's said the 458 was the best caliber because it was good for everything from squirrels to elephants.. He made us a load that was shot over a wad for squirrels. Damn that sounds good for supper.

Really? I just checked Shilen. Their website claims they don't make custom profile barrels. I know one of the people there I guess I'll ask him about it.

    Coop45,

The .406 bore size is VERY CLOSE to .410 gauge & should work FINE, if loaded with small shot.

BTW, the .400B-WI uses the same size bullets as the "old school" .405WCF, which was President Theodore Roosevelt's favorite cartridge.

A shot load SOUNDS GOOD to me, too.

The folks at Wiseman Company south of College Station might help you. They make barrels and their gunsmith did a great job on the trigger of a model 70 I once took there.
