    Howdy everyone,

Recently I got my Ruger Redhawk lightly used from a gun store. Compared to my first year production Redhawk that I use to own, this one (Made in 2018) has a really awful, heavy trigger compared to all of my S&W revolvers. The hammer is kinda clunky to pull back too. Like it almost gets stuck before it fully cocks

Has anyone ever been through this yet? Is there a spring kit or something else that can be done other than shooting it alot. I dont think shooting is going to smooth this one out

I never had the problem with my Redhawk but had a seemingly similar problem with a couple of S&W Model 66 revolvers. Their problem was metal shavings, from production, inside the works. Take it apart carrefully (all it took with the Smiths was to remove the grips to discover the problem, metal shavings galore in there; they were repaired/cleaned up later but not by me) and take a look, could be something similar; then again, it could just be crappy quality control at fault.

It's a Ruger trigger. Will need a trigger job, even then it'll never compare to a S&W trigger pull. It's a different design, Ruger has wide tolerances, you can make it better but not great.

Dunno about that. The last Ruger Alaskan I bought had a great trigger. Sent it out for magnaporting but decided not to have an action job done, did not think I would see any noticeable improvement.

    Gunz are icky.
Get some snap caps for it. Practice snap the beejabbers out of it.
Every so often spray some light oil down into the action.
Builds finger and wrist strength as well as hand/eye coordination.
Slicks up the action as well.

Wolff finally marked my springs as shipped.
Last weekend I took it apart and holy sharp edges everywhere.

I got some hogue grips and plan on shooting the heck out of it once I get the new spring in

Look up shitty trigger and you’ll see a picture of a Redhawk.
The trigger on the SRH smooths out with use.
Look up revolvers that can withstand a Tyrannosaurus Rex killing hand load and you will ONLY see the SRH. The rest, not so much. But they do have nicer factory triggers.;)

Im hearing that super redhawks have a completely different mechanism for how the trigger operates. Its supposedly easier to tune them as opposed to the plain ole redhawk. Not sure though

I have never had a revolver trigger “tuned” I have had them get smoother via shooting the snot out of them though.
I have always figured that the extra money to have a competent gunsmith make a trigger smoother could be spent on ammo/components and I will smooth the trigger out via putting it to work.:rocket:

Make sure the cylinder isn't contacting the forcing cone. Ruger seems to like skiping this part during QC

I've owned more than a few Ruger firearms, rifles, pistols and revolvers. I have never bought one with a good trigger, never. A trigger job will smooth them, new springs will lighten them, they still are sloppy and hard to get a good single action pull with so much play. D/A will smooth out OKAY.
