I remember even just a few years ago, our small local grocery store was still using one of those cast iron butcher paper racks to wrap the meat in. I guess it went somewhere else when the built the new larger store. There's a newer aluminum version on the meat counter now. I liked the old one better. It had class.

    jrbfishn,

You KNOW that you're OLD when things that were commonplace in your boyhood home are being sold in ANTIQUE SHOPS & at high prices.

Addenda: When I was in college 1911 pistols & 1917 .45ACP revolvers were commonplace at First Monday at Canton for 40-60 bucks.

I paid 50.oo for my 1917 (& Augusta Arsenal rebuilt) 1917 S&W revolver because it LOOKED "unissued"/as it left the AA rebuild process.
(Friends told me back then that, "You paid FAR too much for that old relic.")

IF I was willing to sell it (I am NOT.), I wonder what the REAL value is in 2021.
(I need to update the insurance on some of my firearms, as I know that they are "undervalued" now.)

    yours, satx

The toys! I had a bazooka toy that would fire out a plastic ball at pretty good velocity. I had a lot of fun with it. I seem to remember that I lost all the plastic balls before the bazooka broke.

Cap guns - I must have gone through 50 of them over the years. The smell of the gunpowder from those caps is still a fond memory. Most of the cap guns were made out of the crappiest pot metal or cheap plastic. The springs were built to last no more than a week or two.

Yep. Remember my bazooka too. It was actually a GI Joe howitzer. Shot this hard plastic round. Leave a red mark for certain.
Also I remember taking a roll of caps and smacking it two handed with a 16oz framing hammer. Ears would ring for a 1/2 hour.

1964 MATTEL ZERO M SONIC BLASTER BAZOOKA TOY GUN 34 LONG AWESOME

You use the red handle to pump it up, and when you pull the trigger someone could feel the air blast 30 feet away. Banned because kids would put the end of it next to a friends ear and blow out an ear drum...

    To All,

MANY things which the EOF here grew up with are NO longer being made because IDIOTS misused them.
Personally, I believe that laws should be passed that NOBODY can sue in civil court IF they have done something STUPID & (in many cases) that the directions that come with the device state that are hazardous/dangerous.
(For example, when we bought a portable crib for Nathan Paul, the directions from the maker said; "Remove child before folding & storing crib.")

To quote an old friend: Nothing can be made idiot-proof as idiots are so ingenious.

    Yours, ex-cadet

You need the weight of the cast iron to pull & tear the paper
