Good out of the box was my COLT Competition Series. Built was a Delta Elite I had Derr Precision do for me which I stupidly sold. It was awesome. I also owned a Talo CCG that was awesome. Everything you could need without the extra junk.

I have actually been trying to find a good used EMP, but was told recently that they are very picky on what ammo you use.
Is that true or just another nay-sayer?
    I really do like them.

Mine has shot everything I have put through it. They do say not to feed it a steady diet of +P ammo due to potentially damaging the frame, but I keep it loaded with standard pressure JHP when I carry it. I have not tried running steel case ammo through it, but I may take it out if I ever get a day off and run a few mags just to find out.

Some years ago, I bought a SA Micro Compact Loaded 45. Has the two-tone black alloy frame and stainless steel slide. It was the first "compact" 1911 I had ever bought and owned. The first time I picked it up at the gun store, I knew I was going to buy it! Just a matter of how much a hit my wallet was going to take though!

So far, it has fed just about anything put through it with never a problem. I mainly use my reloads now that I make specifically for it. What really surprised me was the lack of recoil, and it's accuracy with having only a 3" barrel, and an alloy frame. It's a sweet shooting pistol. Too bad they discontinued it.

    An addiction, or affliction?

Asking for a friend of course!
LOL!! When I got my .45 ECO, I thought it was an affliction, but a trip back to DW and it turned back into an addiction. Your friend sure is nosy. LOL!

Okay. But this is not exactly saying "custom" to me:

The original designer would have produced the 1911 in reference if he could have.

that being said, I own a Springfield milspec 45
It shoots just fine, eats any ammo I put in it, never once jammed on me. And I really tried to make it jam, put hollow points in it, shot it till it’s hot and dirty, then tried to make it jam by not gripping it correctly. And it still would not fail to feed or chamber the next round. The gun has its place, on my nightstand. Nothing like 8 rounds of 230 grain ranger Winchester if things go bump in the night. And if that isn’t enough, my maverick 88 7+1 12 gauge is next in line.

Not feelin' it. Looks like a fine weapon, but there's too many changes and alterations to the classic 1911 lines and added-on modern doodads.
    Yeah, that's not a 1911, it's a 2011. It's a nice looking weapon, but doesn't look like a 1911.
Browning didn't know about Picatinny back then...

John Browning was constantly evolving his designs, pushing for a better firearm. I think he's be impressed as well as proud that his pistol design has stood up to time and stayed popular. But as we look at the final pistol he was working on, the Browning Hi-Power we see he was always looking to improve and better his designs as he moved forward. It too has held up well through the years, and almost as popular as the 1911.

    What is the "perfect" 1911?

I see that it's a matter of perspective. I like a tricked out gun, others like the simplicity of a design that always works, as compared to the custom guns that sometimes can be finicky.

One of my first handguns 50+ years ago was an old govt issue GI Colt .45ACP. Yes it ran flawlessly, the tolerances were not tight so it didn't have issues there (so loose the slide rattled), but it was pretty worn out and I couldn't hit the side of an elevator car from inside the elevator. I liked that gun but it wasn't much use for target shooting. Bedside, yes. But I have other weapons for bedside.
