Well your average $6-$7 fast food meal just jumped to $16.50.

    Lonesome Dove,

I do NOT think that there will be a MAJOR price increase for fast food (PROBABLY few or NO 10 dollar cheeseburgers!) but rather that there will be a LOT of LOW SKILLED & YOUNG current workers who will lose their job, to be replaced by "automation"/robots.

It must also be said that most so-called "fast food" is neither FAST or actually FOOD. = MOST of it, instead, is SIMPLY AWFUL, as well as EMPTY of vitamins/minerals/proteins & other nutrients. = Just EMPTY CALORIES, sold at an inflated price for what the customer is paying.
(For example, the BUNS from McDonalds have MORE WHITE SUGAR than flour or other ingredients.)

In case anyone wonders, I generally AVOID "fast food joints", except for cold drinks. = The local "Mom & Pops" places are generally MUCH better.

    yours, satx

Please give more details. I don't watch conventional news and turn the radio when ever Biden comes on. Did they officially raise the minimum wage?

    mad88minute,

The HUGE & (IN MY OPINION) WASTEFUL "mega bill", which is filled with "PORK" was passed by a narrow margin in the HoR early this AM.
The bill will likely go to the US Senate on Monday or Tuesday.

I agree. I think most of the profit at these places is the soda they sell and not the food. Don't quote me on that as I have no true stats about where the profit is. I do believe it will mean less jobs. Look at all the self checkout at the box stores. I can checkout and pay with my smart phone.

Yes democrats passed it. Saw it on my news feed. I clearly understand the need for more money but an entry level job in fast food or retail is Not the place to get it.

When I was building Mc Donald’s back in the 80s, one owner told me the majority of his profit came from sodas and fries.

    rotor,

AGREED 100% = Soft drinks & draft beer are nearly ALL profit.
(I belong to a private club here in SATX that is THE largest single vendor of REAL German draft beer in TEXAS & our draft beer costs MORE to serve than the beer actually costs, given the huge quantity that the club sells. = That's WHY we can easily afford to GIVE the draft beer away on "member's nights".)

Th late RAY KROC, who was once the CEO of McDonalds, used to say that he could afford to give away the burgers to sell SOFT-SERVE ICE CREAM, FRENCH FRIES & SOFT DRINKS.
(At that time MILK SHAKES were Mc Donalds HIGHEST NET PROFIT item.)

The $15 minimum wage is a purely political ploy that has been proven in California to put the lower working class into worse economic condition.

If you are making $8.00 an hour, you pay a commensurate amount for food and staples that are priced according to the labor costs of putting that food on the shelves and tables. Now, increase the costs of making that food available by 80% and what do you think happens to the prices of fast food, restaurant food and staples like bread and milk? And who is in the worst position to afford the almost doubled prices? Yep, the same folks who were making ( and still making) minimum wage. Worse yet, this is what brought on all the self order kiosks at fast food places, wiping out tons of minimum wage jobs

Also, every supervisor or manager who is currently making $15/hr or more better think twice if they think their employers are going to raise their wages by 80%; nope, the increase will only go to those making less than $15/hr which will trigger all kinds of union and labor issues and lead to chaos for employers.

Government manipulation of wages is far different than government oversight of compensation.

If we think a lot of businesses failed due to Covid restrictions, just wait
