I don't know about Texas but in Indiana, aside from a small number of detectives, a state trooper's job is to write tickets. Nothing much else barring extreme situations like a prison riot.

That's quite an exhaustive list. I'm almost surprised not to see "assist the road construction crew," but of course "Perform other duties as required" covers that and anything else imaginable. It makes the "public servant" title and the "to serve and protect" motto understandable.

This thread had very different intentions and I myself am not without fault. So to the point made by @andre3k - Can we move on guys?

Tip- I understand your OP reasons not a bad idea, but most LE departments have policies that restrict what and how an officer can post about. Every department is different and policies and politics of those departments make it a problem for some to answer even your seemingly simple question. A lot of times it is a simple question of department liability. Take just the first part of your questions, " This must have an adverse affect upon you. Has being a police officer changed you? " The initial presumption that what an officer has seen "must have an adverse affect" leaves it that any answer could and would be constructed by any lawyer who may or may not be handling a civil case against that department a big problem for the officer who answered. Then any answer to has it changed them can be twisted in court in such a way as to make major problems again. In todays litigeous society lawyers can and do pursue law suits that have little or no merit for huge sums and work out of court settlements often causing officers financial and emotional harm.

You will notice that most of these things are done consequently while working traffic. Yes, if the stop someone for a traffic violation and he has a warrant they will arrest him. As a rule they aren't actively searching for criminals aside from that handful of detectives.

I did skip over motor carrier enforcement. Discussing those parasites really makes my blood boil.

You will notice that many of these points are addressing either rarities what amounts to filler material in the brochure. Using this source is much like asking the salesman if it's a good deal.

    I'm completely pro-Law Enforcement.

We are not the Northwest nor the East Coast.

We are law abiding and armed for our own self defense if Law Enforcement can't get to us right away!

    We like it that way!

Now MM, you know that geographically it is only portions of the NW that don't support LE. Seattle, Portland, the Willamette Valley. And of course, criminals everywhere.

You also know from experience that the most popular firearms website in the PNW has very few anti-LEO members. And that the ones that express their poor attitudes are roundly attacked by the bulk of the other members, which, in numbers, are overwhelmingly pro-LE.

Somebody pee in your coffee this morning??? :frog:

    I will say this again...

Why didnt or dont law enforcement folks respond to threads like this?

Seriously with all the cancel bullshit going on from every case of butthurt and sandy mangina do you blame people still working from engaging on that level? That is outting themselves and putting on the officer friendly hat?

One fraking butthurt retard can make your life miserable and go on a scorched earth campaign trying to destroy your job marriage and future just cause they feel slighted. And yes, its obvious there are a few folks here who are so obviously addicted to outrage that the scenario isnt an unreasonable one. Answering a question nowadays can blow up in your face.

Then add in the obvious retarded folk, know it alls, legal scholars from the law school of familiar osmosis, and anticop bullshit that is dripping off some posts or part of posts and well?

Annnnd, a tiny bit of thread drift.

 Of course! Sadly, I'm afraid youre exactly right. I did not think of that, but now that you've explained I feel dumb for even starting the OP.

Didn't the williamr post make a likely explanation why law enforcement folks don't respond to threads like this?
It's a real shame that the condition William explained exists. Otherwise it would sure go a long way toward improving the general view some folks have toward police - might even be able to improve 66vette's very pessimistic view... nah, I guess not.

Never been pessimistic in the last 40 years.
I come from a LE family & know how they work.
You'd know that if you read my earlier post but, I guess some people prefer to post before reading anything.

All dept's have rules & policies in place & in some cases extended to relatives.
To much to explain & if you know a cop well enough, ask for yourself.
    Rules & policies sometimes change.

Some cops will talk freely & some won't.
In this age of the internet & the way people act & think now, I don't know many who will talk freely on the internet.
Maybe in person but, they'll make a judgment call based on the person they come in contact with.

Take it for what's it's worth but, there's 1 piece of advise I can give when talking to cops.
They're cops 24-7 so be very careful what you say.
I've known 2 guys years ago who said something they shouldn't have......bad move

    Carry on

I’ve had a lot of speeding tickets back in the 80’s. In my defense, the National speed limit was 55. I was a professional ticket recipient during that era

I’m here to answer any of your questions. I’m no longer a professional but I play one on TV

Yeah, I had my first liter bike back then.
I got a nice letter from the state of Texas "please send us your license".
For some reason, officers thought I couldn't have control of my vehicle with the front wheel in the air.
