I want a pump action 22 but I don’t know much about them. As a youngun in the early 90’s there was an older gentleman in our church that had me over several times to do some plinking and he had one. I’ve always wanted one but never researched them enough to really know what I want.

So, what should I get and why?

I got a lot of polymer in 2020, 2021 will be the year of wood guns.

I’ll vote for the Winchester 1906. I’ve never been a big .22 shooter, but man that thing is a lot of fun to plink steel with. Makes me feel like a kid!

    Gunz are icky.
    I tried the Henry pump.
Couple of things I didn’t care for.
1.) it was a beotch to pump. Took a lot of strength to cycle it. Think gorilla arm. Small stature shooters will struggle with it.
2.) the screws holding on the forearm kept working loose. Most likely due to the amount of force it took to pump it. You’ll need to Loctite them.
Gun shot well. Cycled all different 22 ammo. Even rat shot.
    Accurate.

I got a Rem Model 12 that I never shoot. It is like the first gun I ever shot. My Grandpa had one that me and my dad hunted with. When I saw this one I had to have it.

If you get an old one, be sure to shoot the CCI Quiet ammo through it. It’s around 710 fps. It was suggested to me not to shoot the high velocity ammo through it.

It kind of depends on what you want it for.
I bought a model 61 a couple years ago, because, like you, I just always wanted a pump .22. It’s a great gun, but with the 24” barrel, it didn’t give me that gallery gun feel that I wanted. It would make a great squirrel gun.
In 2020, it was my year of wood guns. I picked up the 1906, then my son bought an 1890. Next, a Colt Lightning.22, then the son found a 1906 expert.
They are all very cool, but very different. This nasty looking 1906 with a barrel that looks like a sewer pipe is my favorite.

    Big Green,

Fwiw, the REMINGTON FIELDMASTER pump rifle is well-known among Game Wardens as "the favored poacher's weapon" to kill deer & other game with a jack-light at night. = FULL SIZE & DEADLY ACCURATE to beyond 100M aptly describes the Fieldmaster.
(When I was a Provost Marshal at a VA Army post in 1988-91, our MPs & a BCSD caught a poacher with a pick-up truck FULL of WT & a steer calf. = The poacher finally pled guilty to 12 counts of poaching deer & killing the calf in VA District Court & was thereafter "a guest of the VA authorities" for 28 months. He also was ordered to forfeit his .22 rifle, 1986 Ford F250 4WD pickup truck & his poaching gear to the VPWD. ---- The convicted poacher was very lucky that the VA Attorney general or the county did not seize/sell his home, as a search of the property found two large chest-type freezers that were filled with hundreds of pounds of venison.)

ImVho, the Model 572 Fieldmaster is the BEST .22LR rifle that is currently available new.

    yours, satx

I have a Taurus 72 in .22 mag that I bought about 20 years ago for squirrels and rabbits. I love it, and it’s fun as hell to shoot. Plus it’s dead on accurate.

Grandpa had a 61, Dad had a 121 Rem, I had a 552 Rem...and a Marlin Mountie...then it's been Ruger 10/22...but I found a Sears pump in a pawn shop and had to get it...my son has it now...as slick a pump as I've ever shot. Used to shoot squirrels in the back yard with CB caps...very accurate. I paid $125 for it...in good shape. I'd send you out to hunt the pawn shops.

I think it was a Model 4T...mine had no scope but was a Winchester build for Sears.

I guess I need to finish my Remington Fieldmaster. I bought it without a stock and finally found the attachment bolt to go with the stock I found.

The Rossi gallery guns are fun and have a good reputation for reliability.
