Have several guns I need to make sure are still sighted in and was curious if there’s any out door ranges that don’t charge by the gun. I’m on the north side and the ones I’ve checked with charge by the gun.

Crappy thing is I probably won’t need to shoot but 3 rounds per gun
Yea, that just does not make any sense at all to me. I'd call them up and make them an offer. I know that shooting is way, way down right now, and they might be negotiable.

One range you could try is https://brazosriversportsmansclub.com/

It's best to call and find out as they don't list pricing on their site.

Is that normal down there ?

Yes, it is for the outdoor public ranges here. It's a shitty policy that seems to be aimed at new shooters and folks wanting to sight in their deer rifles.

Even though I don't shoot very often, it's the reason I maintain a club membership so I can bring a pile of guns and shoot outdoors.

Well I still say I would call and make them an offer. If the range is empty, and it may be or at least very slow, they might be willing to work a deal.

Wow, I’m up in Dallas and have never heard of a per-gun charge. Is this a new thing happening with the Houston area ranges? Now I’m worried it might catch on up here.

Marksman, unfortunately, is on the South side. But... it's $14.00 PER DAY - you can leave and return on the same 14 bucks. There is no "gun fee". I regularly shoot 4 guns. The only question, I was asked, was what caliber. 14 bucks gets you one target. You're free to bring your own targets, your own ammunition. Steel casing is fine as long as it's not one of their rented guns you plan on using to shoot that with.

ETA: I shot one time at Agis range, also on the south side (beltway near 288), never again. 20 bucks per hour, no steel casing, no picking up your own casing. They searched my range bag for steel casing ammo and the number of guns after I told them, because they ask, what ammo I was using and what guns I brought.

It's not new, no. Indoor ranges don't seem to charge this way. I have no idea how this pricing model evolved.

It depends on how the range operates.

Indoor ranges have limited space, and it is easy to keep track of people/time paid, it also helps that they usually have targets set on tracks so there is no time wasted on cease fires

Outdoor ranges are typically much larger, and it becomes a hard sell to charge per hour when #1, one cease fire can easily take 10+ minutes, #2, you have large amounts of people constantly moving in and out of the range, and #3, 99% of customers would not be happy that they are getting charged per hour because if they pay for 2 hours, but only spend 1 1/2 hours at the range, they got charged too much, or an afternoon spent doing anything more than shooting a few rounds to sight in can get stupid expensive

Good luck in your search OP, no outdoor range in their right mind would have an indoor range price set up

Well, while you are right about that, there is zero good reason to charge per gun as I see it. Charging a daily fee, or a fee for a 1/2 day, would make more sense to me. A daily fee was what I was used to up north. Seems to me they are discouraging, purposefully or not, how many guns anyone brings to the range. I used to often bring at least half a dozen guns with me to outdoor ranges. I'd not be doing that had they been charging a per gun fee, in fact I'd have been doing what the OP is doing - looking for another range.

No kidding? I thought they were running charities!

Thank you for being intentionally dense as usual. It's a good color on you.
