I was driving up hwy 146 between Texas City and Kemah and saw this shop that had a sign we have ammo, thinking I might supplement my stash of .380 ammo I stopped in to see what he had. He said how it was so difficult to get .380 ammo that the price is high, and he is selling it for $88.00 for a 50 round box. I just laughed an walked out. Too bad you can't report this type of price gouging to someone.
Carter Country on Katy Freeway has had a steady supply of 9mm, 380, 38 special, 40-44-45 caliber for awhile now. 50 round box of Winchester white box 115g 9mm is 27 bucks. They do limit you to one box per caliber per visit. I live close by and visit every Sat-Sun and have built up quite the stash of target rounds. I already had a good supply of quality ammo and am hanging on to that for the time being.

Walmart dropped pistol ammo last year. During a very rare trip to Walmart - the only time I go to Walmart is when I am in the oil patch - in Pecos, I realized they were dumping the pistol ammo so I bought every brass-cased pistol round they had. I think I left a box of steel cased 9mm. Then I called my lady and had her go to the Walmart near us to buy 9mm and .380. Between us we finally got a decent stash of Federal HST for sixty cents a round.

I believe one of our best protections against the price gougers is right here on this forum, with threads like this to inform others of what we are seeing in various stores.

I also think it's and individual decisions as to what price gouging is. Everyone has to make that choice on their own.
I also surf classified ads on various forums. If there is something I want and the price is somewhat reasonable I will just buy it. Picked up 1,000 rounds of Wolf Poly 9mm for $350 yesterday. Not cheap, but .35 per round for paper punching ammo is way cheaper than ANYTHING out there right now.
I am picking up 2,000 rounds of CCI mini mag today @ .15 per round. Not pre Wuhan Bat AIDS prices, but cheaper by far than anywhere else I can buy it. I did not especially“need” either purchase, but I do shoot a lot of both calibers so replacing it affordably is important.

Since I was near one anyway, stopped by Academy and lo and behold, a single box of Federal 30-30 150 gr. Grabbed it because it shoots ok in my unsuppressed 30-30.
They also had a pretty big stack of 9mm and .357 mag behind the gun counter to only be sold with a firearm purchase.
Good for them for monkeywrenching the neckbeards. I just wish they would put ammo out at various times a day when it comes instead of putting it all out at once. The various times a day would seriously thwart the rascal scooter commando units from bringing their unbranched family tree in and wiping out the inventory 3 minutes after they open.

Walmart had pistol ammo on sale recently? I thought they stopped selling pistol ammo last year. If they are selling pistol ammo, I may have to check them tomorrow when I make my run to Academy sports.

Academy, by the way, has had 380 now and then. They sell that Russian made steel cased 380 in boxes of 150 rounds, last selling price I saw was right round $44.00 - no limit. Atwood's has had 380 now and again too, got some there a few weeks ago for right around $25 per box, Aguila brand - 2 or 3 box limit.

I was the ninth person on the line waiting for Academy to open today. No ammo delivery this morning. Oh well, will try again tomorrow. Gun show this weekend and if I get lucky, Academy will have those spam cans of 223 before the weekend. I was told that I had the best price on it at the last gun show I attended by my first buyer when he bought a spam can of it and I still made a nice profit. He told me he had checked everyone selling ammo and had seen a few for sale, all higher priced than mine (I must have been doing something wrong ).

This has been bugging me for a couple of days. I tried to bite my tongue, but it just bugs me.

You are part of the problem. I have no respect for neckbeards like you who run out and try to suck up any available ammo to resell at a profit.

It‘s a free country, so you can do what you want. But it shows a lack of character in my opinion.

And, by the way, I’m not looking for ammo. I stocked up over the last 3 years. So this post is not sour grapes.

On Armslist in my area I see a bunch of ammo ads by the same person that I suspect works at a gun store or Academy and is syphoning off stuff. This I think is pretty crummy but I think that the guy who waits on line, shops around and picks up what he wants and if he wants to sell it okay with me. It's the insider trading that bugs me, the employees that do it. But who said life is fair?

I had THE best prices at the show on most of the ammo I had for sale as per more than one person who purchased from me. If people are too lazy to go to Academy Sports, or buy online, or have enough surplus to get them through, or are just incapable because of work, then if they are willing to buy, I will sell what I can if I have it. No one is forced to buy from me and anyone could have gone to the store lke like me to buy it themselves - but the ones who bought from me did not do so for whatever reason.

I bought at high prices - not lowball prices - and I resold for a usually small profit although some things sold for way more than I imagined they would sell. It took me about 20 trips to Academy to purchase what little ammo I had for sale plus several purchases on line. I used many hours of my time and quite a bit of gasoline in my car driving back and forth on trips sometimes for nothing because they did not have anything I wanted in stock. It's called working for what I got, then reselling it, also known as entrepreneurship and the fee market. When they had in stock, I bought a little of this and that, I did not suck up everything I could buy as you said I did. In fact, Academy Sports near me only has limits on 9mm, 45, 223 and 7.62x39. I bought a little of each. I did buy quite a bit for myself of a certain caliber but that was not for resale. Edited to add: I forgot to mention, most of the ammo I had for sale I already owned long before this buying frenzy. Do you also have a problem with me selling what I had already! I made the biggest profit on a can of 420 rounds of green tip 5.53, probably 5 years old. I replensihed some of my ammo stock with what I got at Academy and sold off my older ammo but I know - you think that is part of the problem too.

I also sell on GunBroker. I have 5 boxes of 30-30 up for sale right now. The required opening bid was $150 or $30 per box. Seem high to you? Well, 30-30 has been selling for around $40 to $45 per box on GunBroker and sometimes over $50 per box. I am selling what I have to others who do not have it and I am offering it for sale to them at lower prices than most. If the bidding goes up so be it but if not I am happy to let it go at the lower bid that was the required opening bid. Some examples of what people are bidding on it: https://www.gunbroker.com/item/881020084, https://www.gunbroker.com/item/880380005 and https://www.gunbroker.com/item/880525587. Go look yourself, there are others.

I was also selling guns at the show from my personal collection - looking to make a little bit or at least break even. I sold a Colt Detective Special at the show, first variation and made a whopping $16 over what I paid for it (and that does not include the gas and hotel stay on my 600 mile round trip to get to the auction nor my time). Does that bug you too, well I do not give a rat's arse if it does so. It's what guns shows are all about - selling guns & ammo.

As for your insulting neckbeard remark and you calling me the problem - people who came to my table and folks who bid on my GB items all seem happy I had what I had for sale and they were happy to spend at my table or bid in my auctions as opposed to others because of my lower prices. Now you may not like that and it is your privilege to spout off what you think about me buying and selling ammo but as for your insulting name calling remarks all I can say is - f-u-c-k off with your spouting off by way of your holier than thou attitude.

What about his FICA taxes? If your insinuation is correct then to be eligible he had to pay too. Like we all do or did. I'm assuming you will be forgoing disability or social security when you're eligible out of obvious principle? So you wont be living off others FICA taxes.

You dont like ammo flippers, great bitch away. You went a bit overboard there. Probably have very little info on his PERSONAL situation or right to dig on it. That's saying something coming from me.

    IMHO ofcourse.

All the personal attacks related to this subject are pretty stupid. But we're all human and arshole at times.

I will be forgoing it because the math says when I am eligible it will not exist. 2032 It's over. Must be nice to be able to collect on something that the rest of us pay for. Social Security is the pure definition of a ponzi scheme.
