The trash has learned that less than lethal ( gas, pepper balls, flashbangs etc) are just that ( generally not lethal but irritating ) and are responding accordingly, as in becoming emboldened.

The only thing that has been shown to deter/stop these insurgents is lethal force.

There will be no pepper spray in my EDC. OC just takes up space an extra magazine can use.
Nah. I have pepper spray in my EDC. Too many dumb people don't socialize their dogs, and let them run free or fail to keep them enclosed. I don't want to injure or kill a dog for doing what comes naturally to a dog when the problem is the person who is supposed to be responsible for them. But I doubt I'd waste time grabbing at it if the primary threat is a person.

I am 100% confident that I can avoid a dog bite, even from an aggressive off leash dog, but I completely understand why others would carry OC for that purpose.

Current conditions though, can seriously make the use of an irritant more dangerous to the user than to the end recipient.

Yes, but obviously not the same.

TL DR = they are using the wrong munitions and improper tactics thus seriously limiting their effects.

They are using the wrong impact munitions IMHO. And not using them within the proper envelope. I prefer oak knee knockers over foam or rubber impact rounds. I have been behind a riot shield that was severely cracked and nearly split in two by oak knee knockers skipped off the ground.

I also like stinger grenades, they are full of 3/4 inch rubber balls. People only try to pick those up once when they confuse them for gas grenades for the obvious reason when they go off in their face.. Stinger rounds for 37 or 40 mm are full of rubber shot from 32 to 60 caliber.

These munitions, except the grenade, are skipped into the crowd and are beyond painful when they hit the knees shins groin etc. I also was forced to shoot one fool center mass once when he charged as 3 of us reloaded, seriously thought I might have killed him for a few seconds as he didnt move. I had no choice as he was just a couple steps away when I closed the 37mm. If he had got hold of the weapon overwatch rifle would have killed him. I was relieved when he rolled over and put his hands behind his back. He just quit, no more fight, he was in bed a week or two before he could breather get around well. Compare that to a foam or bean bag round in the same circumstances and you will see some people get hurt but shake it off.

Foam and bean bag are primarily a one person type option as is shotgun shells filled with rubber buck or small missiles shaped projectiles.

I also saw a LAPD officer have what appeared to be a ND of a 37mm muzzle blast round, cs powder round. He was actually on the line pushing people back and the round went off pointing down. You dont have officers armed with anything but batons and side arms in contact with rioters pushing them back. I also saw a LAPD officer swinging his baton like a base ball bat while on line, another no no as 1 it's too slow a strike and you will get tackled and 2 you will hit the man next to you. Training needed in both instances. There are times to swing a baton but that ain't it.

You can also skip shoot 12 gage bird shot but you have a very limited envelope. Too close and its lethal, too far and its useless.

They should be using lethal munitions at this point.

I'm not. I probably could be if I had training for it though. In particular, a neighbor had a hundred pound Rottweiler who was an escape artist and liked guarding the street in front of their driveway. He ran me to the other side of the street once (I was drawn on him, but I really wanted to avoid shooting). After that, I got him in the eyes with pepper spray a couple of times, and he kept his distance from then on.

Agreed on the conditions. I'll go a long way down the path of de-escalating and retreating to avoid use of force. But it becomes unavoidable, I'm going right to putting rounds center mass.

There is no deescalation of a mob other than deadly force if they have targeted you.
