My wife's parents had a set of encyclopedias, I think it was Comptons, that mentioned THE World War. My parents bought a set of Encyclopedia Britannica Jr. 1948 version. Spent many hours perusing those tomes.I'll bet no one born before 1985 ever had a real set of encyclopedias at home.
Yes encyclopedia sales men were a thing. Yearly up dates were a thing. 6 feet tall stack of knowledge was how most of us learned. It cost hundreds of dollars in then money. Expensive shit and your parents went into debt big time or made a deal for an older set some rich family was tossing out.
Get in line, buddy:I was worried that a picture of me was in here.
Yeah, he really did. Someone should kick him in the dingding.Damn you ruined a perfectly good hijack with that photo.
DayumYeah, he really did. Someone should kick him in the dingding.
Strangely, I got few "likes" on that one. That is so nasty.
I'll bet no one born before 1985 ever had a real set of encyclopedias at home.

Now, the sum total knowledge is at your fingertips. Hell I dont think they even make digital encyclopedia discs anymore.
Next time we will discuss learning to spell and build vocabulary by using a book call a dictionary. You had to memorize every word as you learned them
Then a book call a thesaurus taught you big words.
We had a set that I spent a LOT of time reading starting with volume A. The great thing about it was that it was like a series of disconnected information - not one particular subject in which I might not be interested.I loved going to the library to look through encyclopedias. I was fascinated by so much info in such a small space. If we would have had a set, I would have spent much less time outside. I loved to read as a kid.
When I was 4 or 5 years old, I just about wore out the S volume. Not for that reason tho, I was fascinated with the color pictures of snakes. The volume S was always wore out in grade and middle school libraries. Lol. Parents afraid to do their job at home.
Damn y'all! I think I'm going blind!Get in line, buddy:

We had the Encyclopedia Brittanica 1968 edition. I read them all by 1972. I even remember some of it.I'll bet no one born before 1985 ever had a real set of encyclopedias at home.
I saw some in New Braunfels. I killed them so the dogs wouldn't get hurt.
