    Gunz are icky.
The situation of The Moonpie not owning a .30-30 has been rectified.
Realizing he was a slacker, a .30-30 now resides comfortably in his wigwam.

    In the woods...
When stationed at Laughlin, all I had was a 30-30. It was a bit surreal hunting deer on the slopes above the air strip just 500 yards away. There are some big deer out there!

    skfullen,

RIGHT YOU ARE. - When I was stationed at FT Pickett, we had some MONSTER WT bucks on the post. - SMART TOO, as they would come into the main cantonment area & "trim the bushes" where they could NOT be hunted at all.
(I counted over 50 points on one buck's head, the 2nd day of deer season.= Talk about a "NON-TYPICAL" rack.)

NOTE: We had a more or less "tame" SOLID WHITE WT buck at Ft Pickett, who wore a RED COLLAR & a brass BELL, courtesy of VA TECH's biology department. = The word was out. = Shoot SNOWBALL & get court-martialed.

    yours, satx

In the past if you needed ammo you could always borrow some 30/30 from a neighbor. Today it's more likely you would be asking for 223/5.56 but if he was short or wasn't generous you could always change the request to 30/30 and he would probably have that..

Recently bought a Henry in 30-30 mostly because of 5,000 rounds + handloads. Later read about early days with a light load offer for farm folks to be a one-gun family for rabbits all the way up to Elk. I now have a mouse fart load very accurate, about the range of a 22lr, with a lead 118 grain round nose behind 2.5 grains of bullseye. High giggle factor. Also an easy to carry rugged lever action good in varying conditions and easy to load a special round when occasion presents itself.
    Just sayin'
