Since I have just sold my first gun today via this site: I will tell you my experience. Each of those that had no previous posts (signed up possibly just to communicate with me about my sale item) each one bailed when I ask if they had a LTC or if not I would use their TDL to run a background check on them. One even stated that he was "here on a Visa and could not risk a background check". (I do not want these people to have my guns period.)
If someone tried to buy a gun from you via this site and then backed out because they were "here on a Visa...", I sincerely hope you hit the report button so that person could be banned from the site.

Post count and time on this forum are definitely two factors I take in consideration when dealing with someone on any forum!

No posts is a serious red flag! In fact, the forum rules only allow classifieds access after 25 posts. I thought that was for both sellers and buyers. If not, should it be? I think so...

I doubt anyone would have a problem with showing you a TX DL or LTC/CHL, but if a seller asked to run a background check on me I would tell them to f*** off! That's worse than wanting to record my PII (which I also don't allow).

In SOME instances, a person in this country on a Visa CAN legally purchase a firearm.
Yes. Of course. But they must be a resident. Green card holders, for example, are good to go. The post I was replying to, however, mentioned a person who said they were
"here on a Visa and could not risk a background check".
That set off alarm bells for me.

So thank you for your more nuanced and more accurate response.

I sincerely apologize to all our members who are resident on green cards.

One of the reasons I take my time when discussing a gun sale with someone. It's amazing how a conversation can be "guided" to cover lots of information without ever asking for it directly.

And, yeah - anyone expressing concern about passing a background check is leaving without my gun.

Just to clarify, it is one of the reasons I recommended earlier that sellers do their homework concerning state and Federal laws before selling. There are certain individuals who are not US citizens but residents of Texas who can legally purchase a firearm. Several years ago I was good friends with a Canadian Air Force exchange officer who got himself a nice 1911 when he was here.

@benenglish, I am curious as to whether the 'allow classifieds access after 25 posts' restriction only applies to sellers or buyers as well. I think it should be both, but that's just one man's opinion!

I (and I am sure most everyone) appreciate the fact that you want to remove the individual who tried to illegally acquire a firearm via this forum. I understand that there are some who come here for information and entertainment, but when someone tries to rope a fellow member into breaking the law, that should be their rocket sled ride out of the group!

I found TGT while I was looking for some powder in my area to buy. Might not have stuck around, if there was a posting requirement before buying. Selling restrictions I get though.

To all who have asked about posting requirements, yes, there's a 25 post requirement to sell. AFAIK there's no such requirement to buy. (Yes, if anyone wants to get pissy about me posting from memory then I can dig out the permissions and confirm.)

However, the system enforces a de facto posting requirement for buyers because new users can't PM until they have 25 posts.

    I require a BOS.
Only conduct transfer in Police Dept. lobby or FFL premise that charges at least a $75 fee
3 witnesses are required that neither buyer or seller know personally.
    Buyer must provide a Notary
Weapon will be held until I am sure the money paid is real. At least a week.

I think this is reasonable, but its funny I have not been able to sell any of my guns. And I have all the top brands like Taurus Rossi and Rohm. Even a Jennings.
