Are the new Remington 1100’s as good as previous years? I am looking at build quality and longevity. I have heard of Winchester S/G’s of old that are well thought of on this forum but the newer guns don’t fare so well in the opinion polls and wonder If Remington’s fall in this cagetory.

There's plenty of decent "old" 1100's on the used market. Sometimes buying used is the way to go. I'd just recommend getting a few new O-rings for the gas system and maybe a newer buttpad if the old one has gotten stiff with age. We currently own a few older 1100's and they perform 100%. The only issue is that most of the older models don't come with interchangeable chokes but you'll find some of them come with an extra barrel. YMMV.

Remington 1100's are great guns for standard cartridges.
Remington 1187's are better guns because they can shoot standard loads and magnum loads.
Gas guns are the softest shooting guns because of the longer recoil pulse.
Of all of the current production guns I've shot, and I have shot most of the semiautos, only the Beretta A400 series is softer.
