I also have a Savage 93r17 with bull barrel. I threaded it to use my Dead Air Mask. It's fun shooting and very accurate IF there is no wind.
The basic stock suck though. It has a low comb for iron sights but didn't come with sights. The trigger is great.

Check out the Boyd's laminated stocks. They have several versions that will fit the Model 93. I replaced my factory synthetic stock with one several years ago. World of difference. Before the LOP was too short, so it felt more like a youth's rifle for me. Also when I bought mine, they didn't offer the heavy varmint barrel with anything but the synthetic stock.

I added a Rifle Basis trigger sear to mine as well. I replaced the factory 3-9x40 scope with a BSA Sweet 17 in 6-18x42 as well.

On a wind less day, I have shot 2" groups at over 200 yards in the past. But if there is any breeze, I have seen bullets move as much as 8-10 inches.

I got a neoprene sleeve and padding to adjust the comb height. Sooner or later I'll upgrade the stock. One of the best things I got were 10 rounds mags. It seems like I'm spending more time reloading with the 5's.

Good timing on this thread, I’ve been wondering about one recently.

    Any good semi autos?
The Savage A17 is what you seek. Get the HB . At least get the the Heavy Sport barrel. I have an A22 HB and a n A17 with the heavy sport barrel. As well as a Savage Bmag HB in .17HMR. The A models are crazy accurate and just flat fun to shoot. And you can get Butler Creek 25rnd mags for them.
The only bad thing I have found on the A models is the mag. They work great. But if you try to bed the stock, even the Boyds which they recomend, the mag is held in place by the plate on the bottom of the stock that holds the action in the stock. If you raise the action at ALL, the mags may not lock into place.
Otherwise, they have become 2 of my favorites to shoot. They make me look better than I am.

One of the reasons I bought my 17hmr rifle. At the time I had just a couple of years prior sold my Marlin bolt-action in 22 Mag. to one of my uncles. So I was lacking one, and even though it wasn't needed as much anymore, I still felt an empty feeling not having one.

So I decided I was going to replace it, and talking to a friend he suggested that I check out the 17hmr, and so I did, and liked what I was finding. So since I felt that it was better suited to my use than the 22 Mag, I bought one.

I have no regrets buying the rifle, and it has provided much enjoyment over the years. It's still fun to shoot.

How well does the MASK suppress yours? Have on on a converted 10/22 and curious of the way it handles the 17.

That looks nice too. Now I’ll have to see what kind of stocks are available for it. Something plastic so I’m not afraid of dinging it up.

Let me know if you want me to bring my 455 to the reunion; it’s more full size than most Rimfires. I’ve got both the .22LR and the 17HMR barrels for it.
