Democrats are some of the least informed people. I am particularly wondering if he is the nominee is they will have this issue with black voters who often poll as the most hostile to lgbt issues, but My opinion and what i have seen is black voters are often the least informed.

When I did exit polling during Clinton/Dole and the midterms I got things like "Cause da democrats is fur us and da republicans is against us" when asking why a party is supported.

I find it sad that politics has become so partisan that it splits this country in two. We are one people yet we are fighting against each other over the stupidest of things. Divide and conquer.

Generalizing one side doesn’t help matters.

    Just my 2 cents.

I've been saying this since the 1970's. There ought to be a test people have to take before they can vote. If the test reveals that you are a low-information voter, that is a danger to this country, you are told to go home, study the issues, and we will see you in 4 years.
I did the early voting thing today. Have you seen the questions on the Republican ticket? Read like "are you still beating your wife". Purposely written so that you provide a for when you thought you were providing a against. Like "Do you not want to raise taxes?" Yes or No (I made that one up). Designed to trick you. Well, not the smart guys here but those other folks.

    Over the "stupidest of things"?

I don't consider the first or second amendments among the stupidest of things.

    Nor socialism.

Nor abortion at the end of term or even after the term.

Nor having the government take over healthcare.

I could keep going, but it might end up getting the thread locked.

Were that we were "one people" united by the desire to have liberty and a Republic form of govt. but we are far from that.

We are one nation but have very different people. I do not think we have been as divided since hte war of northern aggression. Now Obama and I think Donald trump said about not a collection of red and blue states but reality is in many cases we are. They don't want things our way in CA nor do we want them the CA way in Texas. The difference and cause of conflict is we are not trying to impose our will on them. They are trying to impose theirs on us. That is why democrats are licking their chops about demographic changes turning Texas and Georgia Blue. That kind of crap is why i predicted the el paso shooting back in 2010. I said people would get sick of things. I will never defend what they guy did, but i knew it would happen and when Texas is blue I feel bad for what might be happening.

    Agree on the division.

Almost half of the country now rejects the basic Judeo/Christian values (and I am talking about values and morals, not religious practices) upon which this country was founded. Which this country generally shared for almost 200 years. How can a nation continue to stand when there are no longer a shared set of values?

Its rare for me to quote lincoln but he did mention a house divided against itself. Now conservatives did not do this. Those "some people did something" and the moron who called the 9/11 terrorists some people were not brought here by the patriots. It was liberals try to gain votes. People say its racist and maybe it is ( i could give a damn what color a patriot is as all patriots are patriots) but liberals seem to think the browner the person the more likely to ge that vote and they are using amnesty and our national sovereignty to get many latino votes and soft on crime policies and now openly talking of reparations for slavery to get the black vote.

What's funny is how racist trump is. So racist that at his rally in my home town of Phoenix I saw lots of black and Hispanics screaming behind him. They were probably there to scream how racist he is.

The left has screamed racist a thousand times too many and all they get out of trump and his supporter is the middle finger.

The wrong people woke up as far as the dems are concerned.

Who writes the test? Who administers the test? Who scores the test? Who arbitrates disagreements?

No phucking test for the same reason you dont place tests or limits of other rights. Limit hate Speech? Who decides what's hate speech? Limit gun ownership? Who decides what guns are bad? Are their limits actually limits on hate speech or gun types or are they limits on your political enemies?

You dont limit god given rights in anyway ever peroid. Those limits will always been weaponized against a political opponent. I dont even need to go into the history of the subject.

Yes I agree with you regarding low info voters, its frustrating if not infuriating, but no I dont assign a race or gender. It's not about that and lowering the discussion to that..... well that useless. Ignorance is ignorance. It's all sad disgusting and willful. Still, It's not your place or business to regulate others exercise of rights. That's why they are rights. They are free to exercise as they wish.
What if I told you there used to be poll tests. They were not difficult. You had to name the congressional rep in the district you were voting in, and one of your senators to DC.

I do not think this is unreasonable at all.

lets just say trump is racist. if he is its not more than democrats just a different type. If i were black i would have to ask would i rather someone be in office who panders to me but does not do anything for me like a job ( now some say some groups dont want that and trumps low unemployment is why some people dont like him) Or do i want someone racist that i have a job, kids have education and keeps the country safe. I would rather have a job and be safe.

    They were not difficult.
    That depends.

The earliest poll tests were impossible to pass. White officials used them to deny voting rights to blacks. Party members used them to deny voting rights to the party not in power. In the cases of racist employment of the test it was often the case that white folks weren't even subjected to the fiction of taking the test; they were simply waved on in.

Lawsuits ensued. The states gradually made the tests more reasonable and easier. The last poll tests in Texas were simple and reasonable. Anyone who couldn't pass was, indeed, probably way too ignorant to be trusted to vote.

It didn't matter. The bad behavior that produced the original poll tests had completely poisoned the concept. They were abolished by courts and legislators and they will never return.

I've discussed this before, here and in the posts immediately following. Anyone really interested in the concept should click the link and read the examples, etc.

My dad voted for the first time when he was an airman. Two of his fellow airmen voted with him. One black one Hispanic. They all got the same test, they all voted.this was in 1960.

If you can’t name your congressional rep you have no business voting, and should be turned away until next election.

Unless you were black. Or any other suposid deemed undesirable. Then the test became..different. You all are smart enough to google the absurdity of such things.

Thus my point. And we gun folk know this, a right isnt a right if you have to ask permission or pass a test. You become a serf or peasant beholding to the lords good graces.

Being a citizen is it in the case of voting rights.
How about dems creating tests that limit Republican voters? Simple test Asking who are the heros of the weather underground movement or who was BHOs 1000th pardon. The administrators of the test decide the answer. The weather underground had dozens of members and they didnt mean commutation or maybe they did.

Republicans could do the same thing if they held power.

How about racist pieces of shit? They were good at coming up with tests. Can you touch your nose with your elbow or more in depth literacy or government tests very few of any race could pass but the ones administering the tests passed desirable and failed undesirable and settled all grievances.

So, we hear about slippery slopes? This is a 85 degree ice covered hill to a place no one wants to go.

    NO PHUCKING TESTS.

We all hate uninformed voters. Well uninformed in our unqualified opinion anyways. So how do we educate or inform them? We all heard the Bernie Sanders supporters opinion of that recently.

As a free society we take the bad with the good. That's part of the deal. When you mandate things like this it is not so free anymore. Thats why we fight public school curriculum so hard. We dont want indoctrination camps.

    NO PHUCKING TESTS.

I already voted. I knew who my city council choices were, reps and senators were the second I saw them. I had researched my choices before I went. But when I read your question my mind went blank for a second except for Cornyn. Do I pass or fail cause I only remberd the senator? Who decides if I remember enough.

On primary day your dealing with like minded precinct workers. You probably get to vote. On national election day you have workers from both parties as well as observers from half a dozen campaigns. Do I pass then and who settles the shit storm? No I'll be phucked outta my vote cause it will take a fed judge a year to finally decide.

What if the judge is that **** who Obama nominated who just ass raped Roger Stone?

See we went thru this in the last century. All of it. People not allowed to vote for stupid reasons and by the time it reached the supream court the person they wanted to vote for was out of office or not elected and long past time to certify the election.

You're a citizen, you get to vote peroid.

    NO PHUCKING TESTS.

It should be hard to take a right to vote from someone not exercise it.

What if I told you the Constitution does not specifically state that everyone has the right to vote?

Yep. Little worse for a Constitutional Republic than an influenced, instead of informed vote ... skin in the game was once a requirement, lack thereof was the first nail in the coffin.

What if I told you I give zero fucks about strawman arguments. The simple fact is citizens get to vote today and tests are never used to ensure anything except limiting that right in voters you find undesirable. PEROID. Good intentions mean nothing. The result is tyranny. It doesnt matter how it's intended it will always end up taking away someone's right to vote.

You is used in the general term not meaning any one person.

Not that I would hesitate, it's just not intended here.
