S&W, ruger, and PSA were killing them price wise. And in many cases offered more modern (even if ever so slightly more) choices.

To be honest, I'm surprised they lasted this long.
I will never buy a ruger ar again though. I completely rebuilt my lower. Other areas out of spec. It’s turned into a nice shooter though.

I’m interested in trying psa. Very nice prices.

Could you elaborate on the issues you had. I have a few but have yet to really shoot them. What should I be looking for?

Yeah, all my recent ruger stuff in general has left a sour taste in my mouth, however I do see a ton of ar556's out and about

I got a stripped lower that had terrible "flashing" on the right side.

Like they milled out the holes, but didn't clean it up. It at one point drew blood. The front of the magwell is very squared off, and the milling around the trigger guard holes is very sharp, and for whatever reason, the hole for the front of the trigger guard is cut all the way through. The area that is normally covered by a grip with a beavertail is cut flat, which is quite annoying when using a grip that doesn't have a beavertail.

Other than that, its an ok lower, but andersons are better and cheaper

I spent most of my time around making carriers, bolts, and gas keys. Rest of it was spent assembling lowers, and doing shows. My preference doesn’t mean a rifle won’t function I just get pissed off when people don’t care to put together a rifle right and use in spec parts. With that said: my mpr needed a new extension tube. It wasn’t covering enough area on my buffer retainer. Plus the end plates they use are too soft for a good staking. So I replaced that too.

The lowers magwell works but my god...no one deburred it. The pocket done on the mill looks like maybe they ran out of coolant and finished the operation anyway. It’s not a uniform pocket. Fortunately you just need four corners to touch the mag body.

Lastly the rail on the upper is too large. It works just barely.

I tossed the carrier before a shot was fired. Go with a fully shrouded one. Always.

It’s turned into a good shooter after barrel break in. This rifle was on red tag sale and I had extra parts to fix it.

    Simple things I look for:

-Before the upper and lower mate look at the gap between the face of the buffer and retainer. You want what looks like 1/16 or more. If the buffer isn’t pushing back as the upper is swinging down you have an out of spec retainer hole and you’re buffer and retainer will get chewed up fast.

-identifying knock off parts. Yes...Chinese parts can be on rifles. Two big ones: delta rings and charging handles. Look at the back of your charging handle. If you see it’s not even/has a twist to it, it’s more than likely Chinese. If you pull back on the delta ring it should return freely. If it hangs up or returns canted it’s probably Chinese.

-good gas seal. Strip your carrier down. Put the carrier back into the stripped upper. Research the 45 degree drop test but what I do is just a feel test. Put your pinky in the rear of the carrier and slowly move the gas key over the gas tube. You shouldn’t feel much. It should feel smooth. A small dump is fine but it should feel effortless. If it’s dragging bad you will have uneven wear of the gas tube.

Edit: after I met the man who’s family operates factories in China producing many of the same looking red dots for example, also produces extension tubes, buffers, springs, ect. Who’s warehouse is on the west coast, I’m very suspicious of just how many manufacturers outsourced some of these parts. Obviously suspicion isn’t proof.

    Much appreciated.

    FYI
No complaints with any of my Ruger SR762's. Good quality, great shooters.
FYI, mine had to go back to Ruger for failure to cycle but they did fix it and it shoots anything I feed it. And mine was NOT one of the early serial numbers.

Remington made one batch of double stack 1911 pistols. Now they dropped them from the website.

The loss of the Remington/Para double stacks leaves only RIA making an affordable metal framed 1911 double stack pistol.

As for bushmaster nothing of value was lost. Lol. Even when ownership used to be under what is now windham, quality wasn’t that great.

Bushmaster was generally considered 2nd to Colt through the 80s/90s/00s. I had several and they were the first non-Colt sear guns I had. I brutalized them with C-Mag Dumps, etc., and they kept running. Market felt the same way as I go top dollar selling pre-ban versions during the AWB. Like most companies, everything went to hell when Freedom bought them.

I think the Bushmaster liability got resolved when it went bankrupt from Sandy Hook Shooting. It was in Bangor, Maine, and was purchased by a Richard Dyke who moved it to Windham, Maine. At some point the name Bushmaster when one way and the skilled craftsman from Bushmaster at Windham Maine began making AR15 as Windham Weaponry. I have one. That's all I can add.

Nope. The lawsuit is going through against Remington.
