Numerous people over the years have accused me of being obsessively detailed when cleaning my firearms after using them. I remember one person commenting that I treat them like "museum pieces". They can't understand why I take extremely good care of my firearms. For me they are valuable assets that I do not take for granted. Also I grew up in a family with very little money so I take very good care of everything that I own.

I hope that I can get more for my dad's 63 Python than what he paid for it
$1500 in 1963 is worth almost $12,500 today’s dollars. Unless you invested the $1500 at 3% compounded interest. In which case you’d be sobbing.

...and what they do to or with their guns?

Over the years, I've seen a lot of strange things that folks have done to their guns, heard of odd ways they maintain them, read weird accounts of a gun owners tactical ideas, and on and on. Some I understand, others make me scratch my head and wonder what in Hades was that guy thinking! I figured a thread about what each of us finds unbelievable or beyond comprehension when it comes to guns & their owners could be amusing and maybe even informative.

So, I'll start with something I've never quite understood about some gun owners and that is when selling one or more of their used guns, they ask for way more than the selling price of the same exact model when brand spanking new. I don't know if it is greed or that they overpaid for it when they bought it but when someone asks for 10, 15, even 20% or more, for a used gun (with no improvements) over the selling price of the same new gun I just don't get it. Well, I do get it if you're married and she who must be obeyed told you to sell some of them or else; I mean ask way too much - get no buyers - explain to her you tried to sell it and show her the ad you posted. Otherwise though, it's a mystery to me how someone actually expects to find a buyer when doing that.
Then end the ad with "no low ballers".

That means next for me. They probably dont want to sell and I wont waste my time on ads saying no lowballers.

Ever heard of a concept called counter offer and it's worth what someone will pay.

People who ask for advice, then completely ignore it, or say "well i just got the thing you told me not to get"

People who will defend poor choices to the death, particularly holsters

A friend decided he could polish a pistol with a Dremel tool. If he intentionally tried to screw up the finish it could not have looked worse. I worked on it for a week and buffed it to where it wasn't horrible. He had the Dremel cranked up to full speed and every time the tip hit the surface it took off and gouged a curve. Instead of realizing the mistake, he just kept trying to polish out the gouge, making more gouges.

Just as dangerous, I've seen posts where people asked about using the Dremel to smooth out the operation of a gun. As a guy advised me years ago: "Power tools do the same things as hand tools, except that you can screw up a lot faster."

I never understand why people polish or buff new guns to make them shine brilliantly.

Neither do I understand the 3000 dollar Glocks. I have never had the desire to gold plate and super charge my wrench or ratchet. Or for that matter the up charge on a specific color glock because they are rare. It's not a 57 Chevy with some single digit combo of accessories and motor. We can revisit the rarity issue again in 50 years if you want but right now they are like skittles.

The desire to customize also adds to my first comment on the post regarding people who over price and then say no low ballers. You dont get the labor back when you sell and your customized gun is probably only attractive to you. Then again who knows, but dont get butt hurt if your rump ranger pink glock with a 750 dollar stipple and paint job isnt worth 1200 bucks to everyone else.

It isn't any different when some people decide to sell anything they own. They want a premium for their gun because it is "theirs". When I was a Real Estate Salesman occasionally people wanted to sell their homes above appraised value because they had too much sentiment involved. My Broker said when they sprinkle gold dust around the property line give them your best suggested price and move on. When people want a refund for their gun, usually including sales tax move on. Their gun is not special to you or me so if they don't understand that they can keep it.
