if i want a short rifle with optics, i’d rather have an AK type in 7.62x39

on the plus side: at least henry did away with loading these from the muzzle end

    Re-read the question

Its a rather simple question "What exactly does only having a rail under the fore grip add to the gun?"

The answer is also simple. Just enough space for a light or a bipod.

What exactly does only having a rail under the fore grip add to the gun?

for those of you who are actively hating on the tactifudd, why?
Did y’all piss and moan when Hornady released the 160gr Flextip Leverevolution ammo? Did you bitch about extending the reliable accurate range of the 30-30 to 200+ yards without having to aim at the horizon ?

Picatinny optics rails allow a variety of optics to be easily mounted. With better ammunition choices the gun is now capable to take legitimate medium-longish shots.
Do you bitch about this new fangled heat treated steel and bemoan the discontinuation of Damascus for barrels?
And the Marlin is still wood and steel, just upgraded. A lot.;)

To each their own, but plastic/black furniture and pic rails just do not seem right on a lever gun. I understand the advantages that some of those modern things offer, and I thoroughly enjoy modern things (you did see my AR build thread, right?), but it still doesn't seem right. Hell, even most scopes on a lever gun seem out of place to me.

Again, to each their own. It's just not my thing. Also, sometimes it's just fun to hate on something over something stupid like appearance. :p

You seem really bothered by other people’s opinions.

Hoji won't have that nagging thought in back of his head that he is going to scratch, dent or mar that rifle while hunting, especially at night..............

I doubt his will be a safe queen...............

    Not even a little bit.

I guess that's one advantage to having a gun that's not made of beautifully figured walnut and highly polished blued steel. You don't care when you beat it up. As much as I like to hate on them, I'll give them that. If I was going to be dragging a gun through adverse conditions during a hunt, tossing it behind the seat in the truck to be bounced around, or doing anything even remotely rough on it, I'd rather have one of these than a safe queen.

It still ain't right though. :p

I drag my blued steel and wood guns through brush and mesquite as well.
