I’m putting together a Glock 17 polymer 80 build, and I know that gen 3 components are what it takes. My question is about the magazines. I found some gen 5 magazines for a pretty good price and just wanna make sure I can use them. From what I’ve read, you can use gen 5 magazines in a gen 3, but not the other way around. Something about the mag release.

The only compatibility issue you will have is if you are trying to use standard gen 5 baseplates in a G19X. If you have a swappable mag release, and have it so the button is on the right (for left hand use) you will need gen 4 or 5 mags. If it is on the left (for right hand use), it'll work with anything

A gen 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 mag will work in any generation aside from what i mentioned above.

In your case, buy whichever is cheapest

Magpul and ets are ok unless you ever plan on using hollow points or steel case.

Unless you really plan on stacking mags deep, there's no reason to not go with factory

That hasnt been my experience with them at all. HPs and steel cased ammo have worked fine for me. Not sure about ets though

Any standard 9mm Glock Mag (sized for 17 length) will work in a Polymer 80.
