Of the options currently available for Gen 4 or Gen 5 Glocks, which would you choose and why? This is open to any and all calibers Glock provides. There is no cost to you for the new Glock pistol.

I hate the Gen 5 G19 with the cutout on the front strap but like everything else about the Gen 5 pistols. Looking at Glock's site, it appears they got rid of the cutout on at least the G19.

    Were I to buy a Glock, it'd be a Gen 4 G20 (10mm) or a G45.

I took care of the cutout by changed the mag base plate. No more cutout for me on my single Glock, a 19/5. First Glock that's actually usable. Currently working on a 43.

Gen 4 or Gen 5 doesn’t matter. Just different flavors of perfection.

On a serious note, I’ve got a Gen 4 G27 and a Gen 4 G19. Never shot a Gen 5. There’s nothing wrong with my Gen 4’s, and they are reliable and feel like any other Glock to me, so I’m not sure what’s supposedly better about the Gen 5.

Trigger and reset is much improved, better ergonomics and more durable slide coating.
Until then, every time I felt like I needed a Glock, I shot one and then got quickly over it. Gen5, I shot one and bought it.

Gen 5. Any day of the week unless you need a caliber other than 9mm

The 19x/G45 are about the best glocks I've ever shot. I'd personally lean more towards the G45 simply due to the magwell.

I don't know but understand that the mags and I don't know what else is different on the 5 and none of the earlier will fit.

I have a gen 1 mag that works fine in my gen 5's

The only gen 5 glock that will not work with certain glock mags is the 19x amd gen 5 mags. Even then, they can be made to work by swapping out the floor plate, or cutting out the lip on the 19x

There are a few things wrong with gen 4's actually. Slide stop is a very fragile part, the gun can be assembled incorrectly, and due to the nested RSA, glock removed too much material from the slide.

Gen 5 fixed all those issues, and quite a few others

Your post makes it sound as if you can choose any Glock Gen4/5 as a gift. If that were me, based on the Glocks I already own, I’d probably choose a G29 or G30 (I already own a G21 and G20)

if I were looking at a double stack 9MM, I’d love to have a G45. but that G43X is another Glock I have an eye on.

the G17/G34 Gen 5 MOS are nice guns too. Love my Gen 5 19 MOS

    guess that was no help...

Maybe Gen 6 will be Gen 5 without the mag cutout
Cutout is quietly going away on Gen 5’s. Just took this screen shot from Glock website. CO is no longer on the gun in the pic...
