    Out here by the lake!
Sorry that someone died due to gross neglect and stupidity. I’m not totally surprised since the key word here is “Africa”.
Back when I hunted there we use to give them shit about a turd world shithole. The Afrikanns like to point that out that the world's first human-to-human heart transplant was there. They also flaunted their nuclear capabilities. Granted the whole of south Africa has taken a few huge steps backwards.

I am curious to know how a woman in relatively good health otherwise......died from a gunshot wound to the HIP..........oh yeah.......it was in AFRIKA

I know...i know.....somebody is going to say arterial bleeding. But she was in a public building with some hopefully qualified emergency personnel.....and she made it to the hospital alive.

Femoral artery bleeds can be extremely difficult to get control of........

I don't know the body type of this lady, but have had my whole hand disappear when trying to hold manual pressure to a femoral artery......it is a large vessel and can bleed copious amounts in a very short time...........not a place you would ever want to be shot......I remember sometime ago where some dude had his friend to shoot him in the leg for some stupid reason and he died.........

    It gets weirder...
A prominent South African prosecutor was killed in court this week by a loaded gun that discharged when it somehow fell, according to reports. (Source)

And it allegedly turns out to have been a shotgun.

The fact that the South African police are investigating the possibility that her death was a "culpable homicide" (illegal killing of a person either with or without an intention to kill that may not qualify as murder or manslaughter) may mean there's more to the story than what's being reported, but most reports are calling it a "freak accident."

The pevis has a huge amount of blood flow and the main cause of death resulting from pelvic fracture is acute blood loss. It's especially serious across the arches, even if arteries are not damaged. A bullet that penetrates between the sacrum and ilium, even if it does not damage any major arteries, can cause an absurd amount of blood loss. Unless the court room is in a hospital, it is unlikely that care for the most severe pelvic injuries sufficient to preserve life would be immediately available.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I remember reading something about our soldiers being told to shoot at the hip, pelvis, groin area. With the small caliber solid rounds there was a better chance of getting an incapacitating wound.

I think its called the zipper effect. Start at the groin... 2nd shot should be gut, 3rd about chest and 4th should be the head. Natural recoil of the rifle makes it easy to work your way up.

Never heard of the "zipper effect" but it was called "vertical tracking" when I was taught it and when I taught it to others at my agency. Same thing but my agency usually preferred to use terms that sounded more professional than zipper effect. In addition, we were also taught to shoot at the pelvic area due to the possibility of body armor being worn by an assailant; of course that did not preclude also shooting center mass. Pelvic shots were said to be quite effective in helping to stop an assailant. They were also preferable to taking head shots as the pelvis is usually much easier to hit than the head; the head often is one of the most difficult targets to hit due to movement.
