Y'all should be able to hear mine if it goes off.
Going by what that article would have one believe, you'd not only hear mine, you'd feel the earth rumble under your feet :boom:for many miles around and the heavens would appear to be on fire:fireworks:. But of course, it does not explode in that sense as I said above.

Found this. So it doesn't seem possible for small arms ammo to explode even with hottest temps known on Earth. According to Guiness, that was 134° F. in Death Valley, California in 1913.

    • Lead melts at 621 °F
    • Nitrocellulose ignites at around 320-338 °F
    • Gunpowder ignites at 801–867 °F.

    Apparently everyone needs a refresher.
This represents the worst things you can do to ammo and the result. nuff said ...
Think you have a better way to ignite ammo instead of within the chamber of a rifle, then watch this. I wish I had tried half these things, I would have been disappointed.

I’ve never read about anything quite so egregious, but have read many articles over the years substantiating falsified readings based on location of temperature sensors...namely, near or in heat sinks.

Here’s a recent summary of those findings:

This page mentions a temp sensor at the van nuys airport.

This was a good video......But, I would like to see what happens say.......when you heat 500 rds of 5.56 (or choose your flavor) stored in a surplus metal ammo can to the point of combustion. I bet the result would be different. I also bet that the majority of ammo "out there in private hands" is stored in metal cans not simply stacked in original boxes on a shelf or in case cardboard.

All of my ammo is stored in the manner I purchased them, stored on shelves in the ammo closet.
Some have been placed in plastic ammo boxes.

It also discusses the hot jet exhaust for a runway-located sensor that someone mentioned above

Yeah I mentioned it. Then I started to question my own memory so I used the Google's to refresh said memory.

Experts told SA that higher temperatures can weaken the structural integrity of stored military weapons and ammunition. And when SA analyzed data from the arms-monitoring Small Arms Survey, it found that the weapon explosions were about 60 percent more likely to occur between late-April and mid-September — the hottest period of the year.

As for small arms ammo(rifle and pistol) this is BS. Most of us have never experienced a cook off even in machine guns in the military. I had it happen once in Vietnam in a 50 cal. Once and this after at least 200 rounds, the gun was several times over what ammo in storage anywhere would ever experience. So much bull from the left.
