When the inevitable protests start, I want the protest leaders to be asked if they protested after the shooting of Jerry Waller.

Don't expect black folks to protest against cops every time they murder someone of any race, they would have to be out there 24/7/365.

Maybe white people can start caring more about police criminality and pick up the slack.

From what I am seeing this officer and the one that just got no billed for doing the same thing should both fry. This is murder plain and simple.

It sucks that our police are getting attacked in the streets and therefore on high alert but this stuff needs to stop and the officers need to be punished.

I’m just thinking I need to invest in bullet resistant windows.

I’ve already asked friends and family to never call the cops for a welfare check. We have the capability to protect ourselves. If there’s trouble, please call this guy.

Something I have noticed that is not being considered. On most of the "reality" cop shows now, they always talk about "you never know what to expect". And they are right, you don't. But here is the problem.
More often than not, they go in EXPECTING the worst. If you expect the worst every time, pretty soon that is all you see. If all you think about is how things can go wrong, you fail to see how they can go right.
What far too many are being tought is to always expect the worst case. So that is what they look for. When what they should be tought is to be PREPARED for the worst, not EXPECT it. When I took Criminal Justice many years ago, tought by retired cops, that is what we were tought. Prepared is always better.

The old saying comes to mind.
Hope for the best, be prepared for the worst.

Laws are supposedly there to keep society safe against those that would do it harm. Law Enforcement is not there to be safe from "those". But rather to make sure society is.

The current mind set of LE seems to be a bit backwards.
Cops used to HOPE they went home safe. Now they think they have a RIGHT to go home safe.

Starting with "White Officer shoots Black Woman"......so I am to believe he shot her only because she is Black and he is White? What difference does the race make in this story......the cop would have shot a White person in the same situation......

He was absolutely wrong in this shoot, I cannot and will not defend his actions........

But I really do not believe race played any part of it....................

    jmho..............

I don't think race played a part in it either, although the neighborhood may have indicated race. I wonder if they will make a big deal about the officers entering the home finding a pistol?

At what point does the race angle make that race realize that banning guns and only trusting the cops to have guns might not be such a good idea?

Regardless of race, if you're sneaking around my back window at 2:30 in the morning and I hear you, I'll have a firearm in my hands too (but I'll shut off the interior lights first)

I read the story, I watched the video. My opinion follows based on what I read and saw and heard.

I do not think any of you commented on the audio in the video before he said show me your hands or whatever was his command. Why in hell, were the officers obviously more or less around the house, shining lights and whispering to one another. Would not any reasonable person inside a house where this was happening believe there were prowlers outside the house. Abut the only person who had a logical reason to be holding a firearm at the time was the person inside the house where this was happening. Why all the frigging spook shit on the part ot LE on a call that was not an emergency call, not a crime in progress call, not anything indicating any actual danger - merely a concerned neighbor call. Why would the police not announce themselves from the safety of cover instead of creeping around the property giving someone inside all the reason to fear what was going on.

Based on what little we know this was not murder, at least not as I see it, but almost definitely a case of negligent homicide/manslaughter. I would like to know more before condemning anyone - but if that is all the info that comes out and mind you the video speaks volumes - then my opinion would probably be that the officer who shot her needs to be prosecuted for several crimes manslaughter being the top charge and all of the responding officers should thrown off of the force and none should be given the authority of a dog catcher or even of a trash collector, in my opinion (no offense to sanitation folks or dog catchers). There is was and never will be an excuse for that shooting as far as I can see from that video but maybe they have something else that can justify the actions of all those officers prowling around the house without announcing themselves to the rightful resident inside. Waiting to see that.

One other note: using all of my imaginative powers, I find it hard to think the two pics/video stills of the "gun" were one and the same item but of course that could just be crappy video quality. Then again, would it be funny (in a suspicious way) if indeed it was two different "guns" that were shown on the bedroom floor.

Just had a creepy feeling run down my spine when a person walked by outside my open patio door (that is street-side) muttering to himself or maybe talking on his cell phone. Damn, almost nobody walks around here let alone at 1030PM on a Sunday night - whoever it was had perfect timing, with me reading through and responding to this thread, to give me that oh shit moment.

If he wasn't in uniform, you may be okay.

Just realized, it's my neighbor sitting on his patio while talking on his cell phone. Neither of us in uniform so maybe we are okay. Sad to even joke about the being in uniform thing but it seems there is a trend developing of cases like this one of LEOs shooting folks who seemingly never should have been shot.

From what I’ve seen, two officers where at the house. As both of them surveyed the exterior of the house for a welfare check, neither seemed interested in approaching the front door. Again, not as a LEO, but shouldn’t that be an important first step?

Continuing on from that thought, is the partner not responsible for the actions of his partner? Not wholly, but see below for rationale.

If a “normal civilian” is involved in a crime where a murder takes place, is also not those accomplices also charged with murder? I’m sure I’ve seen cases where that has happened.

I’m not saying that every officer involved shooting should also implicate the partner, but if there was more accountability for those associated with, much like the general population, then perhaps some more well thought out solutions may be achieved?

Felony murder / Law of Parties. We have it in most of these United States. Most of the rest of the world thinks it's a barbaric concept. Personally, I find it morally dubious to convict someone of an act of violence sans mens rea and immediate involvement.

These are exactly the types of calls from which cops are ambushed. I am not justifying this shooting, just answering your "why" question.

I want to know if they talked to the complainant before approaching the house

I don’t find it morally dubious at all.

What I would find repugnant would be letting a participant skate just because he wasn’t the one that pulled the trigger.
