Man Sells Junk Guns To Buy-Back Program, Buys New Gun With Cash
Posted by Sgt. A. Merica | Jan 2, 2019 | Must Reads, Editorial

So there I am working this gun buy-back program.

And the whole time I stood there wondering, “who is the idiot who came up with this initiative?”

If you’ve never heard of it before, the way that it works is this: you bring in guns, we give you either money or gift cards, depending on how stupid your state leaders are.

The goal is to take guns off the street.

And yet for some reason, even though I’ve worked probably 50 of these damn programs, I have yet to see a felon walk in and say, “you know what? Lemme get a Walmart card for this .40 I stole from my boy.”

Nine times out of 10, those selling us their guns are law-abiding citizens getting rid of broken or unused weapons.

It’s entrepreneurship at its finest. So for that, I need to give some serious props to state leaders. While they failed at the whole “gun handover” thing, they sure succeeded at giving people a side hustle.

    Like this guy, for example.

A Missouri man sold his firearms made out of scrap metal and garbage to a gun buy-back program… and then used the money to buy a real gun.

We call that man a “patriot”.

YouTuber Royal Nonesuch made a quick $300 by taking 3 firearms that he’d built out of scrap and selling them back to the state of Missouri. He described two of the pipe guns as the ‘crappiest guns I’ve ever made’ but was still able to successfully sell them off to the program.

Watching the video that Nonesuch posted, it was immediately clear that the coordinators of the events did not plan or organize as well as they should have. You can see him walk up to a man in a car to get the cash, who relayed information by yelling to another event coordinator.

“I had 3… they’re in that guy’s car,” Nonesuch told the man, who handed over the $300 without confirming or inspecting the guns for himself. “Here you go… go away,” the man says during the transaction.

(Editor note: the video was recently removed from YouTube for violating their terms about firearms.)

Wait. Liberal politicians came up with a government program to spend taxpayer money and people are surprised that it’s poorly planned, poorly executed and full of waste and abuse???

    Not a bad idea..
I have a RG 63 with a cracked frame and a cracked cylinder.
It's worth about $15 in parts and is just sitting there.

    I wouldn't mind getting $100 for it.

it’s just sad. America would be so much better if not for the backa$$wards Liberal/Socialists f*cking up EVERYTHING: the immigration system, welfare/entitlement, healthcare, climate change, penal, now they are looking to thoroughly infringe on the constitutional amendments- bill of rights. they won’t stop until USA is bankrupt, borderless, and a merger with the “1-world Gov”
hope somebody puts a stop to it before it’s too late. the democrat party has to GO. as in NO MAS!

I have a Lorcin I paid $35 for... The thought of "turning it in" for the HEB gift cards they were giving out last time Austin did this did cross my mind, but the hilarity of owning a Lorcin is more valuable

As appealing as getting some cash for trash may be, just keep in mind how your joke on the buyback goofs will be used by them. They will point to it as another dangerous gun taken off the streets and use it to inflate the numbers of firearms turned in at their event. They will then take these inflated numbers to their backers as proof of success and trumpet to the press about the number of guns still out there while calling for the government to "do something."

If you really want to mess with them, set up a table outside the event and offer to buy at a higher price than the buyback is giving out any guns which strike your fancy. You can take a pass on the junk but there might be some treasure worth rescuing.

Yeah, and I can imagine them showing off those hardware store "ghost guns" they valiantly took off the streets

I think there is a better way to approach this. Here is what I have done several times in the past...
    1. When at gun shows, I buy every $60 or less handgun that will launch a pencil that I can find.
    2. Go to the Buy Back and get in line with at least 4 of the cheap handguns in your pockets. Strike up conversations with the others waiting in line that have guns worth substantially more than the $100 they are looking get for giving it up. (I look for pairs of women, usually over 60+)
    3. Check your phone and have an "issue" come up that requires you to leave. Offer to trade two for one, or four for two. Take those keepers back to your car, change your jacket or shirt and hat, and get four more. Go get in the back of the line. Repeat steps two and three until you run out of trade guns. Everybody wins!

I have traded a couple of Ravens for nice guns worth far more. It may seem at first that I am taking advantage of someone, but I look at it this way. That widow was willing to take her late husband's deer rifle, shotgun, or handgun and turn it over for a $100 gift card. I just doubled her income, and saved a nice weapon from being destroyed. I have gotten some really nice guns this way.
