That was straight out of BB. Might check to see how many sold on gunbroker. Sometimes asking and getting are 2 different things. There are 2 now, asking ~1300 start. Under completed most sold around $800.

I'm not knocking the rifle and it is beautiful. Just saying a realistic price if considering selling, me I wouldn't.

    Going for 1200ish on gunbroker
Is that what people are asking or what they are actually paying for them?
You have to log in and see completed auctions to see the final prices.

I'm still torn on whether to keep it for myself or sell it to someone who has the ability to give it the love I can't at the moment with my current situation. My mom and sister have no interest or desire to keep it. Unfortunately don't have the box, but she is a virgin, never been fired or chambered.

That's a work of art, if nothing else hang it on the wall, don't sell is my advice. (although I would certainly love it myself)

It pains me to say it, but, just sell it.
Please don't haul it up to PNW to all that humidity.
It's collectible, but are you or your mom gun collectors?
That rifle needs the same care that your dad gave it.
    My dos centavos.

Renaissance wax, besides it's not anywhere near as humid as say Dallas in Washington.

My dad's cousin was dying and gave it to my dad before his wife could snatch it up to sell. It's been sitting in the safe since then. It's gorgeous, I just have no idea what I'd do with it if I kept it.

I don't know your mom's financial situation. Or yours.
These matter. That being said, I'd look for a Lakota Sioux museum in the Dakota territories that doesn't already have one.
I'd "loan" (or whatever fancy word the curators use) it to the museum with the understanding that it must be kept in "as good as now" condition and is subject to sale.
A bit more legwork and paperwork. But you retain ownership and the rifle is cared for and displayed. Pretty much like the builders intended.

    That's not a bad idea.

Wow, they really went all in on that rifle. Absolutely beautiful!

From what I've seen in the past, commemorative guns generally don't really command much of a premium over standard guns of the same condition. I don't know if that Winchester is any different. I would definitely pay extra for it based on looks alone though. Take that with a grain of salt. I don't care much for "collectable" stuff. If I own a gun, I shoot it, hunt with it, ect. That might not be the best thing for it's value, but then again I have never really thought about the resale value of the guns I buy. I generally intend to keep a gun when I buy it.

I can't tell you what to do, but if I were you, I'd hang it over my mantle and shoot it occasionally. 38-55 is a great, classic round.
