Pack it full. Use a Combat or Celox gauze if possible. If not, use whatever gauze, or cloth available. They have drugs to treat the forthcoming infection(s), but, they can't treat 'em if they've bled out.

Thanks guys for explaining packing for me.

So Dark Angel Medical has a coupon code for 15 percent off for May. Code is STOPTHEBLEED.

I’m getting probably a couple CAT gen 7 and one belt holster. Looks like if you choose the holster and add the CAT, that takes about six bucks off the price of getting them separately. You do NOT want a cheap tourniquet if you are going to buy one. Of course improvising is a thing, but I want to buy a couple of quality ones.

Dark Angel is supposed to be a reputable Vet-operated company.

This trainer says that they are finding that the combat gauze is causing problems with the treated gauze breaking down and pieces of it (not sure if it’s the stuff it’s treated with or the gauze itself?) getting into the bloodstream. So it’s great for the amazing stoppage that you want it for and all but it’s not problem proof.

I found a preliminary study from NCBI. “Safety of the long-term application of QuickClot...”

Looks like dressings were left for 24 hours in the pigs in this study.

I mean, sure, this seems like it’s not well studied as of yet. Needs more research.

Probably ditto on a cheap tourniquet holster. I carry my CAT in an "Uncle Mike's" quality holster & after 3 years of EDC, it's just about self destructed.
OTOH, it's lasted 3 years so far.

As with the linked study, I have absolutely no doubt that any of the treated gauzes will start breaking down after an extended period. But the point of Stop the bleed, TCCC, etc., is to stop the bleeding or trauma enough to let the pros take over. Just keep them from dying long enough for the ambulance, MEDEVAC, etc. to show up and get them to a doctor or some kind of medical facility. And hopefully within minutes, not days. Though I don't remember it (treated gauze) being brought up as detrimental at all during the course I took.

As for the kits and, or TQs themselves, it ended up being cheaper for me to go directly to N.A.R. and purchase through them. This is the kit I purchased https://www.narescue.com/tactical-operator-response-kit-tork.html This kit has almost everything I'll need. I'd like an extra Hy-Fin or two, and I've already got a couple Gen7 TQs and a spare Israeli bandage around in the second kit. And I HOPE it's equipment I'll NEVER have to use, but, there it is if I need it.

Took one several years ago and carry an IFAK in the truck.....Hope to never need it. During our class we were shown a video of a single gunshot to the thigh which resulted in death due to blood loss in about 90 seconds. Could have been saved with a CAT.

A true arterial bleed is fatal fast. Average cardiac output in relation to avg body blood volume = quick death when there's a major hole.
