I would have no qualm with DVs using handicap spots.

I DO have a problem with allowing people who are NOT Vets to keep the DV plates even after the Veteran has passed.

PS: I am not a Vet.

There are 2 types of DV plates. It's my understanding the ones with a small wheelchair on them can use HC spots. The others can't? Anyone know for sure?

    Yep.

A disabled Vet who meets the requirements (50%+ disability in Texas) can order a plate with, or without the HC symbol.

Many who don't want the International symbol on the DV plate also have the blue plaque, which can be issued at the same time the application is approved. Both expire on the same date.

The advantage of the blue plaque is that it can be used on another vehicle as long as the Vet is onboard, and is recognized in other States, where the requirements for a DV plate might differ and the Texas plate is not reciprocal.

Bottom line ... in Texas the DV plate, with or without the HC wheelchair, is all a disabled vet needs to legally park in a HC spot; as well as many municipal parking meters, most airports in Texas, and most toll road authorities.

Lot of snowflake SJW's don't know this and will report you with an app on their phone. It can be amusing to catch one photoing your DV plate and schooling them out of their ignorance ... in a friendly manner, of course.

I've been to the Huntsville HEB only twice and noticed this sign Friday. Do they have them at other stores? Year round or select times?
Ive noticed those popping up in places, cant recall where exactly.

....but DV plate can park in the Handicap zone I believe.
I’ve seen them at Twin Peaks in Odessa, the Abilene mall, and every Lowes I’ve been to in the last year or so.
Lowe's on West Loop S has them in Houston, and also here in Hot Springs.
Well, I was really asking if other HEBs had DV posted parking but it's cool that other retailers respect Vets too. :)

The Gun Barrel City Lowes has 4 parking spots in front of the main door with the Veteran Only Parking signs. They are used but seldom are all 4 in use. I usually park down by the contractors entrance since most of my shopping is on that end of the store.

My understanding also, from a current Dallas PD who is also a reserve Marine I was stationed with in Ft. Worth the other year. He has a DV plate and used the HC spot outside the squadron.

Now, should a current reserve Gunnery Sergeant use a HC spot while he attends drill? Seems a little odd to me a LEO, who is also a Gunny would use that spot. He caught a lot of grief about that, though he could “legally” do so. He still runs a Marine Corps PFT and CFT every year and his PD physical fitness test and yet gets a parking spot up front.
