No formal "This is it!" announcements for a hearing date on HB 357 yet. There is some chatter the bill may be heard either on Wednesday, March 27, or on another day that week. The normal meeting day for the committee would be the 27th but budget debates are also scheduled on the House floor that day which may interfere with having the hearing in a timely manner. As with anything in Austin, stay alert and stay flexible.

Just got this email this morning from Lone Star Gun Rights, anyone got thoughts on this group or if Bonnen is going to bone us?

    Texas Speaker is Blocking HB357!
It is no longer a secret; Speaker Dennis Bonnen is blocking Constitutional Carry(HB357), and he is doing so with the help of anti-gun Democrat Poncho Nevarez. Time is of the essence, and we can no longer stand idly by. The time to act is now!

Call Speaker Bonnen's office today at 512-463-1000 and demand that HB357 be made a priority in the House, and that it is on him to ensure a record vote on the House Floor! We only have until April 3rd to get it out of the HSPS Committee before time runs out! If it is not out by then, then HB357 will die without a floor vote! If there is no floor vote, then there is no record of who supports and who opposes Constitutional Carry!

Emails can be ignored, so it is imperative that you call Speaker Bonnen's office at 512-463-1000. Be kind and courteous to anyone who answers, but firm in your beliefs. Do not curse or let emotions get the better of you. Record your calls if you have the means to do so, and let us show the world how professional ambassadors for gun rights act. Ask specific and pointed questions, and demand real answers. Be sure to let whomever answers know to tell the Speaker that should HB357 not receive a floor vote, he will be to blame!

Thank you for your continued support!

Yep, we are getting it without lube. According to a Facebook post today from Jonathan Stickland, the author of HB 357, Poncho Nevarez, the committee chair for Homeland Security and Public Safety, told him the hearing may be pushed back into April. This is unacceptable and falls on Bonnen for failing to push Constitutional Carry as a priority bill.

If you have any hopes of seeing Constitutional Carry progressing this session, please call Speaker Bonnen's office at 512-463-1000 and demand that HB357 be made a priority in the House, and that it is on him to ensure a record vote on the House Floor!

Give him a call! It can be a challenge to combine "polite" with "pissed off" but I think I pulled it off. You can, too!

Called when the email went out. After last sessions attempt died with no help whatsoever from any elected person, I doubt the No-Balls Republi-eunuchs will show this time either.

Keep the calls coming! This is the first time Bonnen has been exposed to this sort of pressure and it is freaking his staff out a bit. If you called today or yesterday, call again tomorrow and politely ask why there hasn't been any movement yet. Maybe inquire when Bonnen will be making a public statement in support of HB 357? He has boasted about his "A" rating from the NRA, so let's make him walk the walk.

I called Speaker Bonnen's office last week, voiced my support for HB 357 and left contact info... Today when I called, I was told that it was out of Speaker Bonnen's hands and I should call Rep. Nevarez at (512) 463-0566, which I did.

Rep. Nevarez office worker listened to me and said he would note my opinion, but didn't care who I was and left me feeling like Lone Star Gunrights is right and Bonen basically tabled HB 357 when he appointed Nevarez to chair Homeland Security. I'll be surprised if it ever sees the House floor...

Was looking at the Lt. Gov. Craphead's list of important stuff in this session. No 2A stuff included anywhere. Its not going to take much more blowing off the base and we'll sit out the next election and turn this ball-less state RED. I'm not beyond voting Trump and leaving then local dipsh*ts hang. I'm tired.

Approximate text of my call to Rep. Nevarez office today...

Me: Hello, I'm calling today because I saw that Rep. Nevarez committee hearing on HB 357...

OW: Could you repeat that bill number?

Me: H.B. 357, that's Rep Stickland's Constitutional Carry bill... has been cancelled for tomorrow due to the floor budget debate.

    OW: Yes, that's right.

Me: Has Rep Nevarez resheduled the HB 357 hearing?

    OW: No, not yet...

Me: Well, I want to encourage Rep Nevarez to reshedule that hearing for the earliest date possible. Will you record that request for me?

OW: Yes, you are actually the second person to call about that bill today. I'll let Rep. Nevarez know.

Me: Thanks, have a good day! (End call)

It's pretty obvious that Speaker Bonnen doesn't want this bill to come to a floor vote, and appointed Rep. Nevarez to chair Homeland Security to that purpose. The onus is on Rep. Nevarez now though, and we need way more than two people calling him to have any hope of H.B. 357 getting a hearing and out of committee!

Please call: (512)463-0566 and let Rep. Nevarez know how important this bill is to you, and to get a hearing back on schedule!

The bi-polar NRA gave Dirty Harry Reid their highest rating too.
Texas Reps have not got the balls to allow a vote on anything with Constitutional in the title.
    They are closet socialist.
This bill and this legislature is dead. And you can add anything of any seriousness. Except giving way too much money to socialist leaning and child corrupting teachers.
I made so much noise about this last time, that Briscoe Cain called ME. Afterwards I knew the key is not voting so you can say you did all you could while dodging the issue completely. Its got nothing to do with the content

    Here
We need to continue calling and emailing Bonehead as well as Nevarez. Bonehead's office is just trying to take the pressure off of them. If he would tell Nevarez to schedule it for a hearing he would do it, because he does not want to cross the Speaker.

I don't think that will carry as much weight as all the police chiefs and blue county sheriff's who'll be against it.
I'm not sure about that, Vaquero. Back in '95 when Texas passed the concealed carry law most police were vehemently opposed to it - it passed anyway. In January of 2016 when open carry passed in Texas, again most police were opposed to it - it also passed anyway. We may yet see constitutional carry in Texas regardless of what the police think.

President Trump has been flipping some of these Circuit Courts quietly without much fanfare. He has 12 vacancies on the 9th he will have filled with a 13th one in the works out of 29 judges on the circuit. So the next time you feel Trump isn't accomplishing things you might want to rethink what he had done in 2 1/2 years. Just think what happens in 2020 with 4 more years for President Trump
