I've got a couple of pairs of dress boots, but want a set of knock-around, every day Western boots - leather soles, stacked heel, pull-on, preferably brown leather.

I have a high instep, so I need to try on different brands.

Do I hit the usual names - Boot Barn, Cavender's, Lucchese, etc., or is there an independent shop that might have a good assortment at less than full list price?

Not sure where the best place is anymore. I buy a pair and then keep them for thirty years - half soles and heel caps as necessary.

If you’re in the San Antonio area, make a short trip west on I10.

You may also just need an arch insert.

No, it's that my foot won't fit down the shaft of some boot models:

My Lucchese and Tony Lama boots are fine, but the shafts on three different Roper-brand styles were too narrow.

It appears that Billy's is in Boerne and Kerrville. I'll check them out next time I'm in the vicinity.

    Thanks

I use the Boerne location as it’s just around the corner from me.

I have the same problem with my feet.
It's hard to find shoes & boots sometimes.

I have the same problem as you. The top of my foot is tall. I cannot wear slip on shoes, loafers, etc.

I buy leather, Western style work boots, usually Justin, at Tractor Supply. They run about $100 and last me several years. They have a composite/rubber sole and heel and look fine for casual dress.

Tecovas has a pretty good advertising campaign these days but haven’t tried them. They’re made in the USA so might get a pair next.

A couple of years ago I discovered I needed a slightly larger size and slightly wider toe box in boots. I’ve warn boots for years but now they fit so much better. May help with your issue too.

I’ve tried many insoles, twisted x, ariat, and others, personal favorite is red wing high arch. There about $50 for the insoles but man are they comfy.

Best place to buy is wherever you find a pair on sale you like.

Oh, and I’m all hat and no cattle.

Old boy who wrote newspaper columns up in Whiskeyta Falls for a long time gave lessons on how to be a real cowboy one time. "You got to have a pickup truck with a gun rack in the back window upon which is laid an electric cattle shocker gizmo and a coiled up lariat rope hanging on one of the protuberances. In the back you carry a bale of hay..a couple of fence posts and a bunch of empty beer cans." Rough paraphasing on that but its the gist of the strategy. It always worked for the cowboys I knew. The cowgirls liked it.

Before I got married, I dated a number of Red Neck woman, but to my surprise most had four year degrees, a few had Masters and one had a PhD..

All but one were Texas women.

The non-Texas woman was from LA, Louisiana that is.

One was a barrel racing champ from a prominent South Texas ranching family.

I had hair back then and didn't walk with a limp.....Se la vie!
