The closer we get to an all time record length shutdown the farther we get from the fact that, ultimately, we all are on the same team.

Trump should get his wall and Pelosi et al should get something that they want even if Trump disagrees.

When you play for just one team all can and should win.
Both sided are focusing far too much on creating a loss for the opposition rather than a win-win for America.

I'm intentionally oversimplifying, granted, though this isn't rocket surgery.
    WTF???
    Seriously???
First, no one should always win.
Senond, the right as compromised enough already with whinny children that think they know better what is good for us common folk.
Third, if Pelosi was offered - the wall for any one thing you want- her want would effectively be a new Constitution.
They don't throw us a bone when they win, **** 'em.

Neither Pelosi, Schumer nor Trump inspired trust or appeared to have a desire to lead two nights ago.

Had Pelosi said "We are prepared to fund Mr. Trump's wall provided he concede X and Y or Z that we have asked for" she would have ruled the night and inspired America.

Had Trump have said "I will sign legislation supporting X, Y and Z Democratic requests provided they fund the wall" he would have looked presidential and appeared to be a compromising leader.

Want a historical "Art of the Deal"? Read about Winston Churchill's skill at compromise and leadership. Where is that American counterpart, dammit?

    ........................
I'm sticking with a bedrock value here.

The wall is necessary but not sufficient to establish our ability to manage our border.

    .........................
Trump knows the wall alone is insufficient.
Pelosi knows the Trump's wall is just a much needed embellishment of the barrier we have been expanding for decades.

They are all on "Team America" dammit.
My respect goes to the first not to cave but, rather, to the one who brokers the compromise that most all of Americans would like desperately to see in our leaders.

    Uh...yes.
    Very seriously.

    America should win. Always.

Point your WTF somewhere else, please.
    No
I won't. Neither side should always "get a win".
The left used to scream that the wall was needed, and did nothing to get it. Now that the right wants it, it is suddenly bad for America. They can't articulate how, but it is because Trump wants it.
If it was and is the right thing to do as part of the total plan, then by damn t is right and the left should fund it. Even $7billon is a drop in the ocean compared to the overall budget. And nothing compared to how much Obama, Pelosi and the other democrats and rinos added to the budget in 8 years.

They should be voting for "the right thing to do for this Country". Not a "win" for their side. Not against Trump.
    Period

She is voting for her own benefit, not America's.

What legislation are you talking about? Trump is still waiting on that. That's what he is asking for. Or are you talking about a promissory note?

Yes. And Congress made a deal to Reagan, and us, the American people, that for a mil. plus - minus illegals to get amnesty and be granted citizenship, they, the controlling Demonrats would agree to write up legislation to overhaul the immigration system and reinforce and fix/secure our southern border.

Reagan kept his end of the bargain. The Demonrats, well.... So, we are still waiting on that promissory note to be kept.

As l9ng as they don't send Trump a bill to sign, they are'nt even trying, even the lefties I know realize it is all on Congress. Their failure, not Trumps. They could offer a compromise. Give at least part of what He wants and negotiate the rest later. They won't even do that.

I just got back from having a food and a couple of drinks with a large group after a rosary tonight for an aunt who passed.

Hard not to weigh in on current events even in that setting.
Seemed 50/50 Dems and GOP from the discussion.

And, yes, the consensus seemed to be that improving the physical barrier on the border is needed but numerous other personnel issues and technology improvements are also necessary.

    There really was scant debate.

I still think that that is the national consensus on both sides is that we need a better wall and a lot more.

Thump's grotesquely oversimplified "Build The Wall" chant helped him get elected but, in isolation, devoid of other improvements the wall is sorely inadequate and I still find it disturbing that so much of our nation has taken an enormously complex issue and winnowed it down to wall vs. no-wall.

Trump and the democrats should mutually acquiesce to each other's will and grant one another much or all of what they are asking. That is particularly true in this debate because there is, politics aside, little disagreement. We seem to have lost that insight.

Unfortunately this was the week that out leaders, if we can call them that, quit trying to compromise as evidenced by the terrible polarization and hideous performance by the three of them two nights ago on prime time TV.

My relatives at the post-rosary dinner and most of our society want the same thing. The division is a manufactured illusion.

    I'll reassert my baseline contention:
Americans have elected 280 Democrats and 252 Republicans to congress.
We are all on the same side. Team USA!

You are all over the place. You say there is scant debate and we are all on the same side yet you say DT and democrats should acquiesce to each other and then say there is little disagreement?? It is almost like you just wear blinders.
We already have a lot of technological tools on the border so much so that my aunt got stopped 100 mi from the border for giving off a nuclear signature (she was getting cancer treatment and her son is a BP agent) What we don't have is a wall.
There is so much division btw DT and democrats that Pelosi spoke of bringing impeachment against him. There is so much division btw citizens and leftist socialists that they go around wearing a mask tearing chit up all the while calling us racist hateful bigots.
Your comments would be laughable if they weren't so short side.

Traffickers of humans and dope come across the border, illegals murder citizens to include cops on a routine basis, Korans have been found on border trails and we can argue if there really is an Islamic training camp in Mexico and democrats despite loving to spend my money, don't want to give 5B to build a wall? Drop in the bucket to what the budget is (the debt we can't pay off).

You want Mexico to pay for it? How about a 10% surcharge for all the money that gets wired back to Mexico?
