Someone at work asked me about this but I wasn't really sure. Can you have a loaded long gun in your vehicle? I guess like a truck gun or something like that

Anywhere, anytime. Inside the borders of Texas.
There's probably some unenforceable ordinances here and there.
I don't leave home without one.

Loaded as in a round in the chamber?

I’m not aware of a specific prohibition, but I’m not sure it’s the safest thing to do, even with a bolt gun or single shot.

Long gun/shot guns laws are pretty much non-existent here.

    Unloaded is a club.
    Those are mostly illegal.

    Rural Wise County, TX.
I had a buddy about 30 years ago that was a DPS Trooper stationed in East TX.
He said he pulled people over for traffic stops with a loaded long gun (sometimes on their laps). No violation of the law and most were not threats. They just liked to have the rifle or shotgun 'handy'.

I would suggest the barrel pointed AWAY from the driver's door!!!!

    Attorney is wrong

I was also told the same thing by the middle school resource officer (LEO) years ago, fine in vehicle picking up kids but get on the sidewalk and it would be considered " on premises" and not allowed.
I can even have an unlimited number of firearms on state prison property as long as they as stored in accordance with AD 02.95 ,storage of firearms and have been doing so for 20+ years.

    I'm done here.

You are confusing state and federal law. The post you quoted was in reference to federal law.
