BOTW has temporarily closed their long range shooting area.

I heard a rumor that it was because of issues with their neighbors. I have not dug any deeper.

Just wanting to save somebody a trip if you were planning on going there.

    Anybody have more info?

Talking to a guy at the Friends of NRA dinner in Georgetown last night, he texted the contractor that will be working at the range. Adding eyebrows and improving the berms. Hoping to reopen long range in October.

Anyone have an update on this topic?

Several months have passed and there is no further update on the website.

I asked at the front desk a month ago and received nothing but an angry "everything about a developer/permit/court-order is a lie, we are just doing a standard upgrade to the facility. we fired our range officers that said anything other than this". Quite a response for me just asking what the schedule for reopening was.....

    Just posted on their Facebook...

After nine years of operating, a developer has claimed rounds are leaving the rifle range and has resulted in a judge's order to temporarily close the rifle range. Contrary to some rumors, NO ONE has been injured.
We apologize and thank you for your understanding in this matter. We're doing our best to get the Rifle range reopened, however, we have no control in the growth surrounding the range.
Also, we want to thank all of you that have voiced your support and concern. We appreciate you all.

They could always build a fully-baffled range. For reference, this one is 200 meters.

Fairly close to major population centers, such installations could become the default due to encroachment everywhere. I wonder when we're going to start seeing these types of ranges built in Texas.

Only a matter of time before the commies start mandating crap like that.

The last two times I was there they said it was closed because of water puddles on the range causing ricochets. I didn't see any puddles.

Just scrape a few inches of dirt from the field and pile it on the berm.

I understand; I don't want to see such things mandated, either. However, someday soon there might be places where, due to encroachment, there can be no outdoor ranges within a convenient driving distance of a major population center.

In that case, a fully-baffled range might actually be profitable. If that situation arises, I'm sure someone will build it.

And if that happens, I won't consider it crap; I'll just consider it a nice place to shoot.

Seems that would be the case, but it doesn’t work.

I followed a range outside of Valley Mills as it went through this with a completely ridiculous case against it. Tens of thousands in berm work, new shooting platforms that block view of everything but the berm, and berm slopes taken to a seemingly impossible angle. Followed the NRA safety guidelines to the letter and then some. It was still ruled insufficient and it took getting a congressman involved before the case was thrown out.

In that case it was a developer wanting to buy a neighboring property behind the suit. Property wasn’t even in line with the rifle range.

    Good idea but looks expensive.

They could convert it toore shooting bays. Then we could host sanctioned major matches...

There are commies who get off on telling people what to do and mandating outlandish crap regarding shooting sports. Their aim is to make shooting so expensive the average man can't afford it.

A 1,000 yard fully baffled range is a bad idea for many reasons.

If it's about stopping a unlikely ricochet the berm will work. If it's about controlling the firearm community with overbearing regulations and outlandish costs, we will have to find another solution.

I don’t know what you think it’s about, but it’s not about safety.

Yes Sir. Not about safety. That's one of the reasons dropping a ton of coin on a 1,000 yard fully baffled range is a bad idea.

In this instance I believe it's about business. One business builds houses, houses that bring +/-$600 a month each in property tax. Another business charges folk $15 for 2 hours of range use. Of course that had no influence on the courts judgement. Unfortunately for me, I purchased a year membership one month ago to a range I no longer have a use for. I'd bitch at the range owner but I feel bad his business is tanking. Meanwhile the firearm community is losing another nice place to shoot.
