I went to PSC and it was real nice. Cheaper than Area 59 and closer to me by half. So these are the second Sundays of the month. It was five stages and $15. My squad had nine people.

I wasn’t sure if I could shoot my rifle but, that IS allowed it seems. Today I shot my browning buckmark pistol in the match (for the first time competing with that one) and I did just fine.

Some of the same people shooting at Area 59 were shooting at PSC I noticed of course, makes sense.

Kid didn’t go but husband and I did. We did good and had a nice time. I am still pretty slow.

Husband gave me a compliment that I did good especially on the last stage which was “five to go.”

I’d like to try shooting one of these.

What kind of gear does a newbie need?

Husband says “with his black powder?!” Hahahaaah.
Wooo hooo that will be so cool.

You can shoot .22 pistol or rifle. Or a higher caliber pistol like 9mm or .40.
    (Even a 9mm carbine)

Most important gear: You need to have enough magazines to shoot five strings of five shots plus, because you might miss.

A lot of people have fancy scopes but we don’t.

I have five magazines and that works well. That’s the most important thing.

You have to come up to the box with a pistol or rifle bag for .22. If you have a higher caliber pistol you need a kydex holster and gun belt. If you don’t have that, they will probably let you start from “low ready.” You also kinda want a magazine holster for your (9 mm and higher caliber) mags, but this isn’t absolutely required. I got my gear from Comp-Tac (for my 9mm, when I shoot that, the Glock 34).

Besides the gun, you need five magazines, probably. Maybe fewer, if what you shoot has a high capacity mag.

I DID see people shooting revolvers today, so that can be done. You just need lots of the little wheely-things. Heh.

Does the type of holster matter? I assume it can’t be a crossdraw type?
Kydex seems to be the way to go. I’m not sure if you would get told to ditch any other holster. Worst would be that people say, nah, don’t use that, just shoot from low ready and it’s all good.

I use a Safariland GLS, just because that is my EDC holster.

Are there any club-level side matches at Steel Challenge shoots? I mean, do individual clubs get an idea for some different course of fire, set it up in an unused bay, and shoot it just for grins?

Shot at PSC today. Did ok. Slow though. Some jams.

Husband shot the 15-22 and set a personal goal of being cocky and shooting each stage with a full mag of 25 rounds and told himself no mag change (allowing for zero misses). Iron sights.

He made it. Five stages. Not too bad on times either.

Gals y’all did well today. Kinda chilly here and I’ve been cold and wet enough times to no longer volunteer to do that to myself.
