    Hi all,
are there any ranges that have 100+ yards in/near DFW area?
I'd travel about 1hr to use such range.

I just bought a Ruger Precision Rifle not knowing Elm Fork doesn't allow pistol grip rifles for their 100yard range.
    At total loss here :(

I saw an individual shooting an AR style rifle in the 100yd range... maybe a friend of theirs /shrug.
Why is it not allowed? any thoughts? I thought pistol grips were more reliable in precision shooting.

    Any info appreciated :)
    Thanks!

I don't know about being reliable, it's more about personal preference.

Banning pistol grips on the rifle range sounds like some CA commie crap to me.

Elm Fork is silly. They booted me for having a 22" barrel shotgun on the clay targets... Called it too short a barrel. Haven't been back since.

There is a 100 yard range between Mansfield and Midlothian and a 1200 yard range in Maypearl. There is also a 300 yard one in Ferris but you HAVE to be a member to shoot there.

    You can always show them.

Buy a magpul pistol grip for normal use and and take your factory pistol grip and cut it flush with the bottom of the receiver for their range.

    That shotgun rule is ridiculous.

It's a really nice range though. If it weren't for a (understandable in the case) caliber limitation I'd pay it.

Fossil Pointe up around Decatur, Tx allows them. There were 5 or 6 shooting there yesterday on the 200 yard range. $18.00 a day for pistol and rifle (50, 100 and 200 yards). The long range cost more when open. I did 3 Gun yesterday afternoon and had a blast. 50 mile drive for me from Frisco.

Fossile Pointe is +200 but the long range part is not always open and you must qualify at 200 first. Call for the details.

At Fossil Pointe, the normal rifle ranges are 50, 100 and 200. They have longer ranges but like Recoil45 said you got to qualify on the 200 before you can shoot on the longer ranges. I think the cost for the longer ranges are $35 when open. $18 a day for shooting on the pistol and normal rifle ranges.

I need a range to do some quick zeroing and I think Elm Fork is my only real option (I'm passing through town - location is important). I'm going to ask about the pistol grip thing. That's bonkers.

Speaking of commie. Bailey's in Houston in no mags in rifles. 1 round at a time. Ever tried that in an ar15 sitting at a bench?

Regarding pistol grips not allowed on Elm Fork's 100 yard range, I wonder if they are referring to AR15 Pistols? Surely AR rifles and precision bolt action rifles with pistol grips are allowed. Here's their published rules for the 100 yard range. Item number 4 is the one in question:
    • NO – Full Metal Jacket, Steel Core, or Military Ammo on the 100 Yard Range
    • All Rifles must be scoped. NO RED DOTS (3 power or greater)
    • NO – 22 Long Rifles
    • NO – Pistol Grip Rifles or Short Barrel Rifles (barrel shorter than 16 inches)
    • NO – Pistol Caliber Rifles
    • NO – Rifle Cleaning at Bench (Unless approved by Range Officer)
    • NO – .50 BMG
    • All actions must be open when gun is not in use.
    • The muzzle must always point DOWNRANGE:
      • – when removing or putting gun in case.
      • – when loading or unloading.
      • – when closing the action.
    • Always post target at the bottom of the backer board.
